:)I am thinking of purchasing an EP200 Blend Epilator. I am new on this subject matter, but I am going to have to learn as I cannot afford to the Electrologist as often I need to. I have an illness that is alleviated by hormone treatment, but the hormone treatment causes hair growth. And I need to take action immediately lol. Can someone give advise on the above machine. Is it a good machine? What setting do I put it on to do thermolysis only on my face. By husband watched my a electrologist and he is going to do it. Any help would be so greatly appreciated. Thank you!

I've zero experience with an "EP200" and in fact cant even think what brand that may be. Sorry I cant help with settings therefore.

If you are a beginner electrologist I highly recommend you DO NOT start with thermolysis.Blend is much easier to learn and get the insertion correct, and has a lower margin for error. You will make errors!

If you are learning I would recommend a computerized epilator, not an manual one. The computerized epilators will have presets, which are good starting points for learning how much energy to use on different parts of the body or face. You can always use more energy later. You cant use less.

Dont forget as strong a magnification as you can get. This makes a huge difference in getting it right.

It seems I've inspired a fresh troop of DIY'ers. Be nice to your face.

Hi Seana smile thank you so much for your advise! The type epilator is a Precision Uni Probe. ( I meant to include it previously) Can you recommend a good epilator? I am looking for something in the $900 range. I know the Uniprobe EP200 Blend Epilator is blend as the name says. But if you know of a better one I would love to know. I really need help. smile

If I recall correctly wasnt that the one that used the modified 1 piece probes you could only buy from 1 source? That screwed onto the probeholder?

See, I actually own some precision probes. . I bought 3 sheets of them to test some sizes. I Dont like them at all, they seem to have sharper edges and dont insert as comfortably. They are also 2 piece probes which I'm not a fan of.
I wouldnt buy an epilator where I wasnt able to use f shank probes. That probe type is whats used by every leading probe manufacturer in the world. If you dont use f-shank probes, you limit yourself to whatever proprietary maker. If you dont like their probes you better learn to smile

What to use will depend where you are. Where I am in canada I've had a lot of luck looking for machine on craiglist or kijiji{(a canadian site) . I like Apilus, but Silouette tone cn work nicely as well. I regularly see computerized aplius or sil tone for 500-900 but your area may be different.

Both "K" and "F" shank sizes are industry standards. I have used many many different epilators over the years and I have only used "K" shank needles.

There is virtually "nothing" to getting a probe cord for the type of needle you want to use. "K" or "F" ...

Thank you two for the helpful info. I wonder if I could get someone to ship one of the epilators you recommended to me from your area.If you see one for sale would you be so kind to give a link so I can see if I may be able to purchase it? I am very new at this, and I have a lot to learn, but the hair growth on my face has gotten a little out of hand, and I am going to have to learn really fast. I ordered a few books, and I think I pretty much got down what my electrologist does. I am excited to learn as I may end up going to school to do this. smile

'One Touch yourself' and then come back onto HairTell looking for a professional epilator. Introductory cost is low and you can really get a feel and see if this is something you actually want to do, not to mention it's a good learning experience.

Does anyone know anything about his machine listed on Ebay? The machines listed on ebay may be a complete rip-off but just thought I would ask. Here is the link the the product.

Michael,

No, not K or F shank. The Uniprobe is something different I think ( actually according to TES for Telangiaactasia). Here's what TES has to say about them:

"The safest and most hygienic Electrolysis system available.
The field of hair removal is constantly changing. Electrolo
-
gists are having to contend with an increasing threat of infec
-
tious disease as well as a barrage of questionable technology
that has been thrust upon the market. Because of this, we must
be able to offer our clientele the utmost in electrolysis safety
and technology. Uni-Probe provides both user and patient
with the safest, most hygienic, and most efficient electrolysis
treatment there is.
Needle holder caps are a thing of the past thanks to Uni-
Probe.
By eliminating the need for caps, Uni-Probe has all but erad
-
icated the risk of contamination or accidental needle sticks.
This is just one of the many revolutionary features Uni-Probe
has to offer."

They say alot more on page 7 and picture the EP200 on page 30 for $995 of the TES catalog here:
http://texaselectrolysissupply.com/catalogpdfs/ElectrolysisCatalog.pdf

. My point is I dont like what I have had of precision probes, and wouldnt buy an epilator where I was restricted to such.

@IlikeDIY lets not put them through the one touch hell and say we did. They seem to be asking for the right kind of machine smile

@JennyD that ebay link is not a professional blend machine.Dont buy that.
I look alot on Kijiji in quebec. There appears to always be a glut of used machines there. The issue becomes you have to often speak french, and find a seller willing to ship. Then, if you are in the US, pay customs to import it. Here's an example though :
