Hi guys,

I've just started getting electrolysis treatments again.

I'm a Type IV skin tone (Brown).

I have some very bad PIH that's coming up on 7 months post-incident.

I was wondering if anyone else here is also a Type IV-V and has had success with electrolysis?

I've never seen any Type IV-V before/afters for body hair.

And there seems to be so few (I only know of Stopitandtidyup's sister) who have pictures available.

For our electrologists here, do you guys happen to have any Type IV-V pictures you're able to show us?

I'm just wondering if I should give up on electrolysis or not and simply stop trying to do any hair removal.

It's becoming a science experiment each time I go to see my electrologist.

I had my forearms treated 2 weeks ago. There doesn't seem to be any PIH yet, but the scabs are 'inside' the follicle it seems.

HI LDLD.
Here is a skin type IV PCOS suferrer. I am rubish at taking photos but hopefully you will find this reassuring. Needles used on both arms and abdomen are Laurier IBP with Elite Spectrum. It is not a start to finish case, just before and 4 months after one treatment, but that's all i've got on body with permission to post. As you can see this lady's skin naturally have the ability to pigment - the keyhole surgery scars on her tummy, but electrolysis marking goes away nicely after a while.

Thank you for the pictures!

The arms look promising. I'm brown-skinned, but I can tell that even though the Type IV is lighter, they probably run into similar PIH issues as me.

Thanks again.

I'm nearly 7 months past the electrolysis tx that gave me the PIH. It's faded a bit, but around all the hairs treated (which all grew back), there's a halo of PIH...fricken depressing.

Jador, You are correct at saying it doesn't "look" like much of a difference. You notice the reduction better when you compare the count patch by patch. The reason being that this client's hair grows long and curly on the body creating the wrong impression. And this is just before and after one treatment.

Hey LDLD,

Actually, there are more photos. There are users 'smurf' and 'zaphairzap', both females. I think there's at least one male as well.. Geeza01 who would have been type IV for Laser treatments (http://www.hairtell.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/104017/Re_Electrolysis_Diary.html#Post104017) .

Electrolysis being effective has nothing to do with the colour of your skin! It will work if the electrologist is doing their job properly. PIH is something darker skins have to deal with. I remember telling zaphairzap that she could be looking at 6months to 1year to possibly longer for it to completely fade on some body areas, depending on her skin and I think it did last quite a while in some areas.
Check out this thread: http://www.hairtell.com/forum/ubbthreads...html#Post107392

I just really hope that you've done a 'test patch' following the method I've described in older posts. There's would be nothing worse than going through all this and finding you are not seeing very good results.

I could be wrong because of the angle of the photos but her arm her looks like exactly what happens after Laser treatment sometimes if it's not effective (or even if it is, the remaining untreatable hairs) - some of these hairs grow much longer than the more even length growth prior to treatment. I certainly noticed this on my thighs and have seen others with the same issue. I wonder if you would be able to clarify this with her? It would be a perfect example if so.

In this particular case laser did an amazing job and she wasn't too bothered about the remaining hair too much hence why it's taken a long time to do something further. Her hair naturally grows very long on her body, so no stimulated growth in her case.
