I go for my first treatment this week, does it really hurt that bad? Anything to reduce the pain?

Umm really no it doesnt. Most clients find the discomfort very tolerable, and there is the topical Anesthetic route if it does get too much. Most however dont even need this.

Okay thanks, it's just everything I read about electrolysis, the consensus is it hurts like crazy. I am just worried about it. Can I use ice to numb the area first?

You can but the effect won't last that long. I find the pain with electrolysis is highly dependent on which area you treat. For example, the upper lip hurts like hell (this is pretty unanimous), breast tissue tends to be more sensitive, whereas treatment near the spine is very tolerable.

I'm a swimmer too. You won't want to go (pool?) because your skin will look like you "have something." Lots of "Yikes, what happened?" Wait at least a day. (I have gone swimming right after ... but usually in the ocean.)

I've tried EVERY technique and machine and method "out there" ... electrolysis feels like a bee sting ... on METH! (Just my experience ... gotta say!)

I've been on the electrolysis journey for several years now. And I can say that none 27mhz epilators do hurt a lot especially in more sensitive areas of the chest and stomach. with None 27mhz epilators, I can handle a max of 1.5 hours of work per session with icing but the pain is still intense. But 27mhz epilators are not a pain free experience at all either, just a degree more of comfort. I would still not be able to handle more than 2 hours in a session even with 27 mhz. When you want to be hair free, you will push through the pain and discomfort. It's doable and the pain is not like getting a root canal.

Any electrologist that tries to sell you "pain free" electrolysis is going to get red flags from me as I would be worried that they're intentionally compromising effecting energy settings so you don't run away from them. And they'll welcome your money with years of sessions to break down the same hair a dozen + times.

Totally agree with you Fenix. That type of practitioner (I don't think they could be called electrologist since they do not remove hair properly) should get a very big red flag from any consumer... However that kind of service (pain free electrologist) is still available in some country.

Icing works, awesome, I will try that!

Any other ways to relieve pain? Haven't tried it yet, just really scared.

I'm getting it on my jawline/neck/cheeks region, are those areas as painful like the upper lip is?
