I'm Asian with fairly fair skin and loads of coarse, black hair. I also tan easily. I think I'm a type III or IV? I'm thinking of getting my armpits done; can't stand shaving or plucking anymore (takes an hour to pluck each side >_<).

Would someone also recommend a good laser practioner in my area (Vancouver, BC, Canada)?

Thanks.

Hi Pookie,

Fair/tannable skin and dark hair is perfect for a diode laser (versus Yag, Ruby, Alexandrite and IPL).

The closest office I've had experience with is down in Bellingham, Washington:

It sounds like there're dozens of practitioners in Vancouver though. If it were me, I'd shop around to see who uses diode laers, preferably one that's part of a well established chain. Most places offer a free consultation which can give you an idea of how well equipped and knowledgeable the staff are.

I have never worked with an diode laser but I have heard that ND Yag is more effective for skin types 4 and 5. An asian background places you as a 4. You could probably use an Alexandrite laser but I would ensure through test spots that your skin can tolerate it.

Diode is ok in good hands. This skin type is in between. So an alexandrite would be best if the skin can handle high enough settings without side effects. Otherwise, a diode or a Yag would be ok. I would find someone who has both types of machines so they can test both and pick the best one to use.
