I've been getting electrolysis done on my upper lip section, since June 2008 this year. Since when I started, I have used proper aftercare on a daily basis, using Witch Hazel and 100% Aloe Gel during the day, and using Tea Tree Oil at night time.

It is now late November 2008, and for some reason, I am experiencing more redness and dryness on my upper lip, when performing the aftercare. I don't know if it is because of the colder temperatures now, but the Witch Hazel appears to be fine. However, once I apply the Aloe Gel, (which I assume is supposed to moisturize the skin), the upper lip section get very red, and I feel a little tingling feeling. These kind of skin reactions also occurs when I apply Tea Tree oil during the evening. I am experiencing both the redness and it stings even more than the aloe gel.

Please help. Should I continue with this aftercare, or use something else?

Are you using a just a dab of tea tree oil for three nights only?

If you are and this is your outcome, then eliminate the tea tree oil and see what happens.

How pure is the aloe vera gel? Is the clear stuff or is it the blue or green stuff? Use the purest you can find.

I think the tea tree oil may be the problem. How much are you applying?

Thanks for the quick reply.

I have been using tea tree oil every single night with a cotton swab, since I started electrolysis on the upper lip. I have had zero problems since the summer time, until the weather got colder. The aloe vera gel, that I am using is called "Fruit of the Earth", which is clear gel and says 100% on it.

Ok I will reduce the use of tea tree oil for 3 nights now, and see if that helps.

If you use too much tea tree oil it will cause the skin to scale.

The best Aloe Vera is in bottles, and says "Refridgerate after opening" Fruit of the Earth sells both the good stuff, and a shelf stable version that is stabilized and contains perservatives.
