Hi all!

This is my first post, but i have been reading the forum for months and as a result decided to try electrolysis.I am so glad i found this forum it really does give me a lot of support when im down smile

Now about my problem! I am a pretty hairy person (thanks dad) it is not really that bad, i am successfully getting my bikini and underarms under control with IPL but the problem is my stomach!

I have always had hair there and about 6 years ago had a few IPL tratments done on it which has made it WAY worse. After the IPL i also did laser treatment (about 12 sessions)and worse again! i told the lady doing the treatment that the hair was getting thicker and growing longer but she said it will will go away eventually. It never did and i stopped seing her.

I have been doing electrolysis since august for half an hour a week and can see some improvement. The girl that does it is lovely and i feel like im making progress.

However when i went today another lady did my treatment and she said that i have to do IPL! and the area is too hard to treat with electrolysis because its so large. I told her my story and she insisted that it was a bad machine and they use a medical grade IPL machine.

Im so confused now and scared doing IPL again on my stomach. I would prefer to continue with electrolysis because i feel its working even though it will take a long time.

What should i do?

Thanks in advance.

I am female 25 and no medical issues

Apparently the lady confusing You wants to sell her services with the medical grade IPL box, which is pretty much ok as long as she can judge if it is appropriate. In Your situation this really does not seem to the case.

Why do You not just stick with the electrologist? Electrology - correctly applied - is the only method which will definitely work.

BTW: independet on the method hair removal is a process requiring patience.

You're being sold on things you don't need and that won't work for you. I'm assuming you're female. Most women's stomach hair is not coarse enough for laser or IPL, so only electrolysis would work. I had it done on myself as well.

You should also be considering true lasers for bikini and underarms instead of IPL, which is an inferior type of machine.

If your electrologist doesn't think she can tackle your stomach hair, find someone who can.

I agree with LAgirl on this one.
You need to find someone who is willing to tackle this area for you in electrolysis. It is different work from that which would be done on your face, but an experienced practitioner could do it without much adieu.

These images confirm the words of James and LAgirl:

1 hour of Electrolysis...

Another hour and 10 minutes later...

7 days later...

20 minutes later ...

wow those pictures are amazing!

the girl that I usually see is very happy to do the electrolysis, she has told me it will take months or even years before it is finished and I am fine with that.
she is nowhere near as fast as the pics above, and will do half an hour at a time( I can't really handle longer than that anyway).

How long it takes will depend on how committed you are to regular treatments and how skilled your electrologist is at getting you cleared fast.

If everything is done correctly, you'll be done in 12-18 months after your first clearance. You basically have to get the entire area cleared and then you just come in to clear any new hairs that pop up every 3 weeks or so.

Well, nobody has answered your question, so check out as many electrologists as you can, that are in your area. Go to www.hairfacts.com and www.electrology.com and peruse the information on how to find a good electrologist before you start the consultation process. Good luck!

I've been doing electrolysis on my entire stomach for a little over six months now at 2-3 hours a week. I've gotten a lot of it cleared and have started working on my chest(breastbone) and back + bum :P

The results are amazing.

I too did laser (4 treatments) on my stomach and i truly believe it made it worse. So yeah i would recommend doing electrolysis.
