Hi it's been a couple weeks (around 3 weeks) since I got laser hair removal on my lower legs and upper thighs and it's in its "shedding phase" now...I'm not going to be able to get another laser session for at least 6 months to a year and I really wanna epilate my legs! Most hairs are loose and they slide out without tugging but should I be doing this? Does this hinder the LHR process in anyway? I'm OCD about body hair and I'm dying to epilate my legs and pick out the pepper spot hairs!!!

Your laser operator should be able to answer that. If they do not know what to do it means they do not know enough about what they are doing. GOOD LUCK.

If they come out without resistance, you should be fine. Although technically, you could epilate or otherwise remove hair with the root and be fine if your next laser session will be that long from now.

Fantastic, the answer I wanted to hear! It seemed not right to think that pulling up killed hair again with an epilator would somehow magically make it alive and growing again...just seems like an efficient way to speed up the shedding process!

1) Waiting that long for your next treatment won't really 'hinder' anything in the long run, but it will enable many hairs to lapse out of the anagen phase. By doing so, you'll have to plan on an extra couple treatments.

2) Yes, manually removing the hairs is fine so long as they slide out without resistance.

3) Not a good idea to epilate shedding hairs. You run the risk of plucking out missed hairs, which, if present, should be touched up within the next week (ie, 3-4 wks post treatment). In general, I'd also stay away from epilators as they can distort follicles and break the hair, instead of removing it by the root.

Not sure why you replied to my post with that, because I'm not asking any questions. Plus you've already stated that once above.

Not everyone knows of or has used a rotary epilator, so the OP's question is legit. Regardless, this forum is meant to provide information to consumers, so discouraging folks from asking questions is kind of counterproductive.

@Nevay

I read on another post that you are currently taking spironolactone.

You should be aware that:
1) This medication generally only makes current hairs finer and less noticeable. Laser only works on dark, coarse hair, so hopefully your leg hair was still coarse enough for treatment.
2) While it may also help prevent 'new' growth, that (and any other) benefit goes away upon discontinuing the medication.

For these reasons, it's generally better to extract as much benefit from LHR and electrolysis as possible before commencing antiandrogenic therapy.

I know what you mean about the spiro (I've done my research well) but I've drawn the conclusion that I take it now, and not wait one day longer, so that I don't waste time feeling out of control with my hair and have the quality of my life ruined any longer. I know it's only dependent on the medicine like you said (I went on and off of it before and believe me, I REALLY saw the difference, I know) but I don't have to constantly shave, wax, bleach every single day which is such a miracle. I probably should do it the way you suggested but I focus on being in hair-control now instead of possibly sometime in the future. Thanks for the concern though smile and yep the hair was dark enough, especially cause my skin's so white!

Hey wait a minute, that's the electrolysis woman who runs the "Boston school of electrolysis" and who dedicated her entire website to accusing people like James Walker and Andrea of being scam artists and that this entire website was a scam loI funny, I can tell by all the similar spelling mistakes and capital letters on her website propaganda...
