I'm a brunette and I'm not terribly hairy, but the vellus hair or whatever is more brown than blonde. I was wondering if I should just leave it alone or if it was okay to remove it? I'm having laser hair removal done on my arms, and the lady that did the laser on my arms said it wouldn't react to the laser that it was too fine, but the 2nd lady that did it was about to shave my upper arm because she said that it wouldn't get worse, but I said I was okay with it, that I didn't want her to shave it... I was wondering if women shaved their upper arms?? I've seen my mom's arms and there's practically no hair (she doesn't shave) and other women have blonde hair but my hair is more brown. It's not terrible, but now that I'm looking at it, it is starting to bother me... I just don't want it to get worse.

Laser is not effective on vellus hairs. My advise would be not to have laser done on your upper arms as this is one of the most common areas where laser induced hair growth occurs. I have seen many clients who have had Laser induced hair growth in this area. I would take the advise of the lady that did your arms.

You can shave your upper arms.

Do NOT get laser treatments on your upper arms though.

Hi, had Laser treatments over 3-quarter arms with pretty good success. I didn't want the upper quarter treated because of the risk of induced growth and to my surprise, my tech agreed with me.

My routine is like this. The lower 3-quarter arms have fine, sparse hair now, I shave them every 2-3 weeks. I bleach the upper quarters. When I want smooth arms and I'm in a rush, I shave the entire arm from the shoulder. The texture of the fine upper arm has not changed. When the hair starts to grow back after shaving, it's a bit stubbly (because of the density) but after a week or so it feels normal again.

In the summer where I wear sleeveless a lot more, I wax the entire arms.

I hope to finish off with electrolysis but until then, this works for me.
