I bought this on ebay a wile back, now im selling it. I have about $1200 in everything pictured and was hoping to get my money back, I guess we well see how it goes…
I just thought I would post it here in case any one is interested, IMO, for a DIY situation an Apilus is probably the safest bet.
You would do better with the Apilus, Silhouet-Tone, Fischer, Instantron, and Clairablend products we have listed.
The Gentronics units are wonderfully versitile, but not for the home user who has had no hands on instruction. (I am not saying the others are simple as pie, just that they would work out better for someone who is self taught from a book, working with a partner, as we strongly suggest to anyone thinking about doing work without a professional. Obviously, the best thing is work from a trained professional, who has proven skill.)
There have not been any real machines listed on Ebay in a long time, so for those still looking, here are some currently available outside of Ebay:

As if the waters of hair removal weren’t treacherous enough with risk. Here’s two top of the line machines, but each seller has only one feedback. One has a feedback for a motorcycle crankshaft and a negative out of three responses. The other has only one purchase in three years, no reserve on a top of the line machine with only a two day listing …with private ID. yikes! <img src=“/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif” alt=“” /> I don’t think I’d deal with either, no matter how low bidding was.
A nice, new condition Fischer with only a three day listing and low starting. This could be someone’s great deal. I think the seller will take any reasonable amount as this isn’t the first time it has been listed. Anyone thinking about a real machine should keep an eye on this!
The new owner will have to spend for missing parts; the needle holder/ cable, grounding metal cylinder, and the cable that attaches to it. Not a huge expenditure, about $70 bucks.
This is a very good machine. If someone were to co-d.i.y. with another, this machine would be a godsend, but for the individual going it alone, the money that would be spent for this would probably finance more thorough, quicker work in unaccessable areas by a pro. It’s just a lot of machine. But as for the machine itself, it rocks. It’s Silhouet Tone, it’s built like a tank, it’s all microprocessor digital, touch pad, easy to use, no moving parts, and watching this unit zoom through it’s sequential programs is really, really impressive.
Let me put my “ditto” on what you’re saying, Mantaray. My electrologist used this same epilator on me and it offers a nice treatment with fast and steady results, not to mention, sensation was very tolerable, too. She was about to upgrade to the Sil-tone VMC, but unfortunately she died. This would be a nice buy, but cautions go to anyone that might purchase this, as it is powerful.
Oranges are an even better fruit to practice on, as they are curved, like a face, and have round indentations like follicles in their skin. Some electrolysis schools even have students do that.
I purchased this in 1999 and it was my steady, loyal companion until I bought my Sil-tone VMC 2 years ago. You never see this MC 160 D listed on e-bay, that I’m aware of, as most electrologists are very happy with this digital microflash, blend and multi-needle epilator. If the MC 160D ever shows up on e-bay, that would be a great purchase for someone.
And, yes, oranges are a good fruit to work on also.
And this second one is a good, solid, digital unit. It’s best described as: a great entry level quality unit amongst the line of digitals that have been offered by Silhouet Tone. Silhouet Tone machines get progressively more advance than this, but there are some people that will never need the extra sequential/ programmable/ customizeable/ flash features offered by the pricier units. I would also ask myself if I was comfortable with digital readouts as opposed to analog display meters. $600 for this unit would still be a solid buy. Mostly because the buyer will be rewarded by the quality of which Silhouet Tone machines are assembled. The blister-type membrane buttons have a long, dependable lifespan. The missing manual is a factor, but this machine is very basic despite being a digital. But bidders be ready, I’m sure Dr. Heimlich, a regular buyer of machines on ebay, will show up to the party fashionably late with his good-buy-affirming $500 dollar bid.
