I purchased an official Tria directly from the company and can confirm what is said in this review. The accuracy of the laser was terrible, often causing damage to the skin which left small scars; it was far more painful than a gentlelase treatment despite lower settings; took hours and the battery life was abysmal. I almost decided to sell mine online but considered it unconscionable to do so and threw it out.
It is much better just to save up and get professional laser treatments - even this has to be carefully done with the proper settings and takes some research. When you go for a real treatment the difference is obvious, both in the way the skin reacts, and the care and preparation involved. This is not something that can be done from the home.
There is work being done on topicals and methods for improving rapidity of laser effectiveness but these are still being developed (my father is a doctor and has been doing research to help me out).
