question about settings

It’s pretty common. We haven’t heard any induced growth stories on that area. This laser at high settings would be the best one to try to see what happens. Hard to impossible to tell whether your hair is coarse enough over the internet. Hopefully the clinic can tell you.

hello!
It has been a while…

I am type 1 or 2 (so very light with black hair) and i was using alexandrite gentle lase by candela…
i started lhr almost 1 year ago… So far i had 2 lhr on my whole legs and 3 treatments on my bikini.
It has been almost 8 months since my last treatment on legs and 3 months since my last treatment on bikini…
results:
Lower legs- so happy!.. around 80% gone!
upper legs-at least 40% gone ( those hairs are sill dark but thinner)
bikini- hm… 60% gone ( mostly left on my labia since those hairs are thinner i guess…
I am going to have at least one more treatment on all parts cause i think i can still get some reduction…( after all i only had few treatments)

I am happy with results so far

Thanks for reporting back! Glad you’re getting good results. You usually need around 6-8 treatments, so you can definitely get a much bigger reduction still.

Today i had my first treatment on my armpits. Alexandrite gentlelase was out of order so they used Nd:YAG (neodymium; 10 mm spotsize…

It hurted waaaay more than with alexandrite and i am not going back there until they swicth back to gentlelase…

I was surprised and unprepared for that…Can someone tell me what are good settings on that laser and how good it is in general? Anybody had success with it?
Thanks

Its great for skin types 4,5,6. Not as effective and much more painful on skin types 1,2,3.

Pain really mostly depends on how coarse the hair is and how high the settings are. Your GentleLASE treatments should also be painful if the settings are high enough. So, I wouldn’t judge only by the pain. If it was intolerable, make sure you weren’t burned.

It’s impossible to tell you settings over the internet. First, we need to know what joules and pulse they used, not only the spot size. It would also help to know the name of the machine. Nd:Yag is just the type of laser like GentleLASE is alexandrite. Other than that, if it hurt, it sounds like the settings were high. But what YOUR skin type can handle safely is something that needs to be tested etc. If you tell us what they used, we can only really tell you if they’re high enough to cause permanent damage to the follicles.

The lighter the skin, the more an Nd:YAG hurts.

HI!

Lagirl;
Nd neodymimum yag was used…I belive this is the full name. I never tryed this laser b4 and did not know they would use it. Otherwise i would have informed myself in advance as i always do.
So far i was always treated with alexandrite gentlelase by candela. I was treated with alexandrite with 18j, 18 mmm spot size on my bikini in the past. The pain i felt when treating my armpits yesterday was waaay worse. Unfortunately i dont know the settings… damn!
Today my skin looks like i shaved my armpits, no redness or anything. Lets see what happens…
Well anyways since it is better for darker skin tones i am not going to use it again. I hope they will prepare alexandrite…

Choice; I am skin type 1 maximum 2, so i guess that explains the pain…
Thanks all.

ND Yag is just the type of machine (neodymimum is the same thing as Nd). It’s not the name of the manufacturer and model. You need to ask them for that. If they’re using a Candela Nd:Yag, it’s called GentleYAG.

I wouldn’t worry too much at this point. GentleLASE would be better, but for dark coarse hair a Yag at good settings will do the job as well. And it sounds like the settings were high.

… Just an update

I had third treatment on my whole legs about 12 weeks ago.
I have experienced very good shedding. I am going for the 4-th treatment in a week-
i belive 13 weeks apart should be ok…

P.S: it was candela Nd yag when i treated armpits-I dont know the settings though. However, i experienced shedding some 3 weeks after but too much was missed ( 20-30%)
I will try to get touch up there next week

will keep updating; maybe write a short summary after i am done with LHR

Thanks for the update. 12-16 weeks apart is good for legs. They have long hair cycles.

Candela’s Yag is called GentleYAG. Yes, you should get a touchup on whatever was missed.

Upper legs done;
alexandrite genlelase by candela;15mm 28J
It took about 1:40 minutes; red dots all over… lets see what happens…

I showed the missed areas on my armpits.
-I was told that i shouldnt expect all the hairs to shed because they are not all in anagen fase… i thought they should all shed anyway…

So what is the truth?

Are the red dots at each individual follicle? If they are, it sounds like something good has happened :).

If it’s your first laser treatment, not all hairs are grwoing hairs. There are a mixture of growing and non-growing hairs and some in between. The ones that aren’t alive can be “killed” because you can’t kill something that is already dead (inactive, hair in relation to this subject).

… yep at each individual follicle. This was my 4-th treatment on legs.
On my armpits it was first one so not all the hairs were in anagen. I know that they cant be permanently killed…but i though they would shed anyway…
On my legs, ALL the hairs( except missed ones) would shed each time…

All hair sheds even if it’s not in anagen.

Legs often experience more pepperspots than other areas. That’s hair that’s stuck in the follicles, but still dead.

Missed hair is only the hair that’s growing as usual after 3 weeks, i.e. neither shed nor stayed as pepperspots.

Good settings for your 4th treatment. Your practitioner knows what he/she is doing.

4-th treatment on my lower legs
15mm 28J
not all the area was treated cause it was not necessary. On the back of my lower legs i had hardly any regrowth
