I went today for my first treatment for laser on the face/chin with a Lyra. She told me to come back in about 3-4 weeks…from what I’ve heard this is too soon, even for the face. Is there any benefit in coming in 3 weeks? What are the disadvantages? Can it cause anything?
You should not have any new growth 3 weeks after treatment.
Technically, if you had a treatment, you should see the hair shed in 3 weeks. So in 3-4 weeks, there shouldn’t be anything to treat. If nothing happened and the hair is growing as usual, it was probably not affected, i.e. usually because the settings were too low. If there wasn’t much redness right after the treatment or any pain, it could be a sign as well.
Keep in mind that Lyra is not a very good Yag and that you should be very careful to treat only the coarse hair because it can actually stimulate finer hair to become more coarse. If there isn’t a lot of hair to treat (close to a man’s beard), you may want to consider electrolysis from the start.
I’d tweezed/waxed about 2 and a half weeks before my first treatment. A few hairs came off in the shower yesterday. So I should see them grow for about 2-3 weeks and then shed? And yes many parts of it are very coarse, and I guess then next time, I won’t have her work on the less coarse/dense areas so it doesn’t induce growth.
Yes, wait for shedding.
Why did you wax 2.5 weeks before treatment? Didn’t they instruct you not to wax or pull the hair out with the root for at least 4 to 6 weeks prior to treatment? What skin type are you? If you’re a skin type I, II or III, you will have significantly better results with an alexandrite laser than with a Yag.
