I know what you are saying James, it truely is a sorry state of affairs. I would dearly love to learn the art of electrolysis, unfortunately colleges here don’t run electrolysis only courses, you have to learn electrolysis as part of a beauty course. The problem with those courses is that you don’t get nearly enough hours of electrolysis work to make it a benefit. The private courses can be costly and the ones specified on the BAIE site are some considerable miles away…so what with work commitments and childcare issues, I wouldn’t be able to reach the classes in time. My self-esteem and confidence has suffered so badly because of this issue that I’m finding it more and more differcult to get out of bed and go to work, let alone start a course and meet new people. I am seriously thinking of ways to juggle the time to do a course though…as what other option do I have. I just want to be happy again!!!
I understand your situation. Many people become expert home repair do-it-yourselfers or expert car mechanics because they can’t hire someone to do the job with high expectations. It’s different with electrolysis. Even if you become the one that can do all levels of hair removal with the best setup, you can’t work on your own face anyway.
You can become a lobbyist, as such, and present ideas to an individual electrologist who is ammenable to changing this up for the good of her/his business, for the good of the profession but more importantly, for the good of her clients who are depressed and have self-esteem issues over facial hair.
Long, fine blond hair can be treated with ease if the set up is corret. I do it every day and so many others. I don’t alays agree with my clients that it should be treated, but at least I can serve them well if that is what they want.
A lot of what you are experiencing is “pack mentality”. We humans tend to believe and repeat what the alpha female/male does. If the leaders in the electrolysis profession espouse what they have always been taught, then all the little sheep follow. They purchase the same epilators and eyewear, thinking this is the best there is and this is what so-and-so does and they’ve been doing it this way for 25 years, so it must be right. Some don’t care and some don’t have the talent to do this well. It’s hard to break through pack thinking. Become an advocate and write letters and make contact with the alpha teachers and doer’s in the UK. That is where one starts to change hearts and THINKING.

You remind me of something.
Bruce Lee was arguably the best hand to hand fighter of all time. He was iconoclastic, and taught concepts that broke the rules of martial arts. However, people made much of his altered fighting stance, which was with a bent knee, often leaning towards his foe.
Well, it turns out that this quirk was more like the woman whose family cooking instructions passed down had the one leg cut off from the turkey. Turns out the originator did not have a pan large enough for the turkey to fit without cutting it off. In the same way, Bruce Lee had one leg that was longer than the other, and the stance was to make the most of HIS PERSONAL situation.
Don’t be afraid to pair up with someone, or a small group of people and learn how to become Hair Removal Maverics. It will annoy the monopolists, and provide your community with a level of work not currently available.
