First time hair laser on back done. 3 weeks after my first treatment - i have developed acne spots all over the treated area. Will this fade or should i seek help. I am skin type 4, machine used was GentleLase - joules settings 10.
Hiya Ricky,
What has your post laser treatment regime been? Have you been using aloe vera lotion on your back? No hot baths or showers for around 24-48 hours afterwards? If you go to the gym do you make sure that theres no sweat on the benches when working out?
Acne will usually fade, I have occasionally got the odd spot or two after treatment, although I’m quite thorough with my aftercare.
Also, what’s more interesting is that your being treated with a GentleLASE with skin type IV and unsprisingly theyr’e having to use a low setting of 10 joules. You may want to consider looking for someone who uses a YAG laser, as they will be able to use more effective settings and reduce the risk of stimulated hair growth after laser.
Hope this has helped.
Kind regards,
Benji
Benji boy made a good point. Instead of the acne-like appearance, you should be worrying about them using the wrong laser for your skin type and stimulating more hair to grow because they are using such low settings… 10 joules? Can you ask them about this? Maybe you can get your money back if they can’t offer a good reason for why they are treating you with a GentleLASE.
I think you may be getting ripped off and you should do your research to keep them honest. Read the Laser Faq’s here on haitell. Hopefully, you haven’t put a bundle of money down that you can’t get back.

I was told by a lot of people that GentleLase would be the best for my skintype, I have got middle-eastern light skin. And they said that the next time i go in the Joules settings would be 12.
okay. Let us know how all goes.
Thanks.
Hello, i am slightly worried now. If i change from GentleLase to Nd:Lag. Which machine type should i go for and what settings would it be, for my skin type 4.
The Nd:YAG will be best suited to your Skin type, as long as its above 50 Joules it should be fine. Do you know what model they are using?
Kind regards,
Benji
No, all i know is the GentleLase settings and that it is one of the newer machines. Are all the Nd:Yag lasers the same or should i go for a specific model.
Not all YAG’s are the same. The best YAG is generally the GentleYAG, although the Sciton and other such makes are quite good as well.
When you find a clinic, speak to them and find out what model and ask their reasons for using that model, have you looked in the FAQ’s as to what to ask Laser clinics? It’s always good to equipped and just remember, you can never ask to many questions… we pay shed loads for this treatment, so a little prelim talk doesn’t hurt.
Kind regards,
Benji
12 joules without a spot size doesn’t tell us anything about the settings on a GentleLASE. We need to know the spot size that’s being used. If you can post a picture, we can try to determine what the marks on your back are. They may be pigmentation or they may be a result of sweating too early after your treatment, bacteria, etc. Have you showed it to your clinic? What do they say?
There are lots of factors with settings, especially of a Yag which has variable joules, spot size, and pulse. You should concentrate on finding a knowledgeable clinic who will know how to best treat you and set the settings. Maybe you can run a search for your city here and find previous recommendations.
