advice choosing new electrologist please

Yay, yesterday I had an appointment after a week, and I had NO coarse hairs. There were some black ones, but none of them were man’s facial hair texture. It’s only been a week, and it could be that more coarse hairs will pop up with the next growth cycles, but I am happy about this because finer hairs are so much easier to cover with makeup.

But just to vent, yesterday I made it late to the appointment because of problems with traffic and parking and ended up paying $70 for 35 minutes (it’s $83 but she took $10 off). She just got most of the most obvious hairs on my chin and upper lip, when I had booked an hour in hopes of clearing my whole face and starting on nipples and toes. It completely sucks.

I was afraid that these hairs would get in the wrong stage soon so I called up the first electrologist and got an appointment today. It’s ending up to be about $150 this week for 95 minutes for the 2 treatments combined. I should probably not even have gone to the late appointment, but then they probably wouldn’t have let me go back ever.

She got almost all the hairs on my upper lip and cheeks, and cleared my big toes and nipples. I’m really happy with how it looks. But she used thermolysis on me (old school, with her clareblend) and I’m worried about the effectiveness because she doesn’t wear any eyewear except her glasses. I was counting on blend making up for any inaccuracies. But at least she works without hardly any plucking, and I saw many of the hairs left on my skin afterwards had the root sheath. I asked her about the thermolysis since she used blend for my consult, but she said she can work faster with thermolysis and that it doesn’t make much difference.

Also, she seemed uncomfortable working on my nipples and left it to the very end. It’s embarrassing for me too, but I want the hairs OFF so I don’t care. But it sucks that so many electrologists seem reluctant to treat the area.

On the plus side, she didn’t even question me wanting to remove fine hairs on my face, and gave me a mirror so I could check that she got all the ones I wanted removed.

All methods under the title ‘electrolysis’ work. I frequently switch modalities or go to different modes under the title of ‘thermolysis’ (PicoFlash, Microflash, Synchro)relating to my epilator for example. Sometimes I use different modes under the title ‘blend’ PicoBlend, OmniBlend, EvoluBlend). Electrolysis is a delicate art and a good electrologist knows when to use what mode. Your electrolgist will deliver permanent hair removal to you. I see little to doubt here. If she can see well with what she uses, then all the better. Trust.

I personally don’t have any hangups working on the nipple area. It’s just hair coming out of skin same as the chin area. If an electrologist works on this area several times a week, then she should have no uneasiness. All I see is hair and I treat it. Most of my clients just go forward with me and do not appear bashful for the most part. If anything, they are worrying about the sensation part and hey just want that hair off for good! If the client is appears to be bashful, I start talking or asking them questions unrelated to hair removal. It goes pretty fast for most and then we are on to the next area.

Even when I am working on breasts, or more private areas, the only problems stem from the client’s appearance of having a sense of being uncomfortable.

I once had a female client who wanted me to remove all the hairs from her breasts, but insisted on covering her nipples with her fingers during the treatments. This of course, made it more difficult for me to access the skin I needed to treat, and made acquiring the proper insertion angles impossible. It took 4 weeks worth of slow, awkward work and my advising her that perhaps she would be more comfortable with a female practitioner to get her to drop the fingers and just let me do the best work I could without limitations.

I could tell a few other stories that go in a similar direction, but I will leave well enough alone. I can’t speak for your person, but I can say that the client often leaves the practitioner on a heightened awareness, and going out of their way to try not to offend, or make the client uncomfortable, and in doing so, frequently succeed in doing exactly what they are trying to avoid. You don’t know how many people have gotten offended just by my putting on a surgical mask as I start the treatment.

I haven’t met ana electrologist who was uncomfortable to work on the nipple area. That sounds odd to me. Btw, I would recommend using blend on the nipple area if your hairs are deep and curly like mine were there.

I don’t know how to tell if they are deep or not. The electrologist didn’t seem to have any trouble removing them with thermolysis. I did pluck enough for them to turn dark black and coarser, but it was only for about a year I think. They don’t look curly to me, maybe a little wavy. But I would like to do blend there anyway to be sure the hairs are killed.

Thermolysis will kill hair just the same as blend. I only foudn blend necessary on the nipple area out of all areas I treated because those hairs were deep.
