Can I have electrolysis....allergic to nickel?????

Electrologists can work on you as soon as one week after full clearance, as they can see what you can’t. One only needs to come once every 3 to 8 weeks, however, if the full area can be cleared completely in one sitting. Later, one would only need work once every 12 to 24 months, followed by nothing left to do unless you start a new area.

I went back yesterday, one week after 1st clearance, & you are exactly right…she removed about 70 hairs I could not see, except for the few eyebrow hairs I was aware of as I’ve thrown out my tweezers! I have to say 30 minutes of treatment flies by & seems more like 10 minutes. This has been a very positive experience so far. I was crazy to wait so long to begin. I thank this forum and the support I have gotten from some very helpful people…James, Dee, lagirl…Hugs to you all!

We aim to help. So glad things are going well for you.

Hi all…just an update. I have just completed 8 months of work on my upper lip & brows. I started out going every week, then every 2, last 2 appointments have been spread out going every 3 on her advice. Hair counts have been between 160-200 for most visits. My eyebrows seem to be needing the most attention, atleast to my eyes as I haven’t touched a tweezer since first appt. They tend to look very shaggy by the time I get to treatment more so than my lip.

All my appts. have been for 30 minutes, splitting time between lip & brows & a few strays here & there.

I am wondering if I should keep on the every 3 week schedule or go back to every 2…sometimes it seems as though I have more hairs that I started with…is it normal to have to treat a hair more than once…more than twice?? I had a stray on the side of my face & it seems as if it’s come back 3 times now.

I do get some pin point scabbing that comes off easily when I lightly wipe with cottonball & witch hazel…they usually appear on days 4-5 after treatment…is this normal?

Thanks again for everyone’s help & encouragement. I pray I am getting closer to being hair free…can’t imagine how that will feel.

Are you leaving your appts each time completely cleared of all the hair? If not, you may want to increase your appt length. If you leave any hairs untreated, they will already be in the next growth phase by the time you come back for treatment, so it can slow down the process.

Some scabs are normal, yes.

My eyebrows took a while. There are a lot of hairs growing close together there.

Went to my 2nd 3 week interval appt. yesterday , she removed 240 hairs in 30 minutes. She still felt I could go every 3 weeks, but I opted to try 2 weeks again as my eyebrows did look shaggy. I am getting a clearence each time. We’ll see what the next hair count is, if it’s noticably lower, I’ll begin every 3 weeks…does the hair grow faster as warm weather approaches?

I was also wondering about if it was normal to need to treat some hairs more than once or twice?

Thanks again!

Oh, I have heard that hair can grow faster in warm weather, but who knows for sure???

Yes, some hairs need to be treated twice, maybe three times. We call this the breaking down process. Some hairs are so thick and hardy that we may not get all the hair germ cells the first time, so the hair will come back thinner and weaker next time. Always time this so you get new, fragile hairs, don’t let them get established so they can get stronger.

Eyebrows are a different animal altogether to tame. I find that most of my clients need between 15-30 treatments spread out over 1 year to as much as 18 months. The session time gets shorter after month six so you are not spending alot of money, so don’t collapse at the 15-30 number. By the one year to 14 month mark though, the hairs are sporadic and puny.

Your electrologist sounds wonderful and little pinpoint scabs that disappear within a week is nothing to panic over. When this happens to my clients, I still try to make minor adjustments to avoid this, but sometimes no matter what I do, they still come. Sometimes it is related to what a client does after he/she leaves the office, specifically, exercising at the gym and sweating a lot, or no aftercare routine being used.

If your eyebrow hair seems to grow like crazy, just go in every two weeks instead of three for a while, then spread it out to every three or four weeks. Stay patient because eyebrows can take a little longer than some facial areas, but it will all settle just right if you are cosistent.

Have you listed your electrologist in the referral section yet? Ask her if it is okay.

Thanks Sharon,

Dee
