i experience very bad ingrown hairs to the point that i develop cysts and scarring. I went to one consultation so far and she told me the most i should expect is a 50% hair reduction and i would need around 10-15 treatments. She told me not to waste my money. And that she wouldnt be able to kill the hair follicles because she wouldnt be able to turn the laser up enough because i would get burnt. I was wondering if there is any hope for me im almost desperate.
I am assuming that she does not have an NDYAG laser to use on you. Try to find a center that specializes in dark skin.
Sounds like you didn’t go to a very experienced clinic.

You only need 6-8 treatments, spaced 2-3 months apart

You can kill 99% of COARSE hair. There will always be some finer hair left, but all the coarse hair will be gone with good treatments.

There are different types of lasers. If she only has one and it’s for light skin (and you don’t have that type of skin), then she’s right that she’d burn you. However, you can go to another clinic that has an ND:Yag type of laser which is meant for dark skin and be treated without issues.
Please give us more details about the area you’re treating, your location, and skin type. Please read our FAQs at the link below carefully ASAP.
she told me that the laser she uses is the one meant for dark skin and it still would burn me. I want to get a brazilian done. i am located near toronto ontario and my skin type is 5-6.
Can you find out the name of the laser she is planning to use on you ??
she told me they use the lightsheer diode laser
That answers it all. The Lightsheer, in MY OPINION is a good laser upto skin type 4, however for a skin type 5-6, an NDYAG laser with a wavelength of 1064 nm is recommended. This could be the GENTLEYAG, CYNOSURE APOGEE ELITE, ALTUS COOLGLIDE ( Now Cutera ) or SCITON or any other 1064 nm laser.
LightSheer is NOT for dark skin types. It’s not meant to be used on anyone with a skin type darker than III-IV. You’re being told a lie because that’s the only machien she has.
Like Chris said, you need an ND:Yag laser like the ones he listed.
Run a search for Toronto using the Advanced Search feature to the right and expand to 3-4 years. There are many discussions on clinics there.
