darkened skin after second lightsheer treatment

Hello,
I’ve been reading this forum for a while and it’s been quite helpful. I’m a 25 MTF trans person getting laser treatment on my face. I almost posted 10 weeks ago after my first treatment when I had scabs and crusting all over where I was treated, but they all went away and most of my hair fell out so I was quite pleased with the results.
I’m getting my upper and lower lip and chin done. I had a test patch done on my neck before my first treatment and it worked fine. The first treatment I completely healed. I’ve been wearing sunscreen, though I lapsed a little in the two weeks before this treatment. I haven’t been out in the sun much though.
Last week I had my second treatment done, and it reacted worse and took longer to heal. My skin was inflamed a little bit and I had scabs everywhere. It took a week to heal and a lot of the hair hasn’t fallen out yet. I’m worried though because the skin under my moustache is slightly darker than the rest of my face. It’s lightened a little bit but doesn’t look like it’s going to lighten anymore. It doesn’t look terrible, but does look like I have a moustache even after I shaved, which is exactly the opposite of what I was trying to do!
I had lightsheer laser treatment with cryogen air cooling both times. I went back today and the technician said that she used the same setting as last time, but next time will use cortizone cream as well. She sold me ($40) a tube of bleaching cream called hydroquinone 4% cream, and says to use it sparingly twice a day on the affected area for no more than three months at a time.
I’m going to wait for more hair to fall out and to see if this will clear up any more before starting to use it. I was wondering though, has anyone tried bleaching cream before? I’m worried that I’m going to do it wrong or it will be blotchy or make the skin too light.
Thanks,
J

it sounds lke pigmentation, which would be due to darker skin there in the first place. what settings have been used on you so far? what skin type are you?

pigmentation usually goes away in a while. but may take several months.

Thanks for your reply…I think it is pigmentation, though I don’t know what you mean by “darker skin there in the first place”. It was naturally colored before the treatment.
I have light olive skin. They didn’t tell me what setting they used.

I would ask about the settings (joules, spot size, pulse).

i meant that your skin there was naturally darker and they used the same setting as the rest of your skin which is lighter. so the darker part got slightly burned or pigmented.
