I would suggest that you stop using the antibiotic and the cleansers at least for a few days after the treatment. They can do more harm than good to your irritated skin. Witch hazel is very easy on your skin and makes the healing a lot faster. Try it.
Also, avoid drinking coffee, drink lot of water during the day of treatment, and take an Advil or so beforehand. That should help with the pain. Make sure to eat too. You can also get a numbing cream if you can’t handle it at all.
I agree that you need to find someone who uses thermolysis method which is much faster and can be less painful too. Where are you located? You should add location to your profile. How are you searching for electrologists currently?
thanks for the tips… i have only gone to two thermolosys people so far. ONe was manual the other computerized, but neither knew what flash or microflash was. I don’t know if that means that they weren’t doing flash … I don’t know exactly what flash is but it seems to be some sort of computer aided quick method of thermolosys… not comp, but computerized I mean.
I looked through all the assn links in teh sticky on how to find an electrologist and also used citysearch. I am going through calling adn surprisingly galvanic is popular and few people have returned my voicemails (even more surprising- i just said, hello, im interested in what modality you use adn your rate, please call, etc)
so i will call these places again and keep searching around. I wll call the woman i went to to see if we can avoid hte pain and reaction if I dont find anyone else, but first I am going to try elsewhere and hope for hte best!
I will update!

ps i cannot currenlty go to a doctor and have regular periods so no real reason to suspect hormonal probs . my hairs arent coarse or black either. I have always been a very hairy person so i belive it’s natural aging process (I’m 27) that is causing blond hairs to turn more medium grey and become more plentiful on face on lower back area. Do I have any reason to worry? I mean, facial hair must be somewhat common bc of the market for hair removal products… i just worry that since im not in the mediterranean group of women who sometimes deal with this problem, that somehow there is a hormonal prob instead of just nature… if other blond fair haired people ahve htis problem I’d feel better!
How could a skilled electrologist not know what flash thermolysis is? Holy crap! Microflash might not be word they know, but FLASH Thermolysis shouldn’t be a mystery. I’m dumbfounded and annoyed.
The electrologists you called and left messages with might be hesitant in calling you back because you asked about method and pricing. Maybe they are on vacation? Instead, maybe you might want to ask to make an appointment for a consultation and save your questions for then, that is if the consultation is free. That would be a question worth asking, “Do you charge for your consultation?”. Maybe they will return phone call.
Blonds can have as much if not more hair than Mediterranean people. We are all born with the amount of hair follicles we will ever have and whether we are hairy or not depends on genetics and other variables. I don’t think you have reason to worry, but if you feel the need to have your physician check you out for medical conditions then follow your instincts.
Lastly, where do you live? If you fill in your location on your profile maybe we can suggest some practitioners near and around you that will return your calls and who actually knows the different electrolysis modalities.
Dee -thanks for weighing in - I was alos a bit surprised that no one seems to know what flash is… and after calling twice a few people called back.
I’ve have someone who is ok for now, but we tried thermolysis and at the lowest setting on the machine, it hurt too much for me. It makes my whole body jump and that was my nightmare experience posted about earlier, although it was much worse the first time. THis new one decided I just can’t take thermolysis and we are doing galvanic which is admittedly more tolerable due to the gradual buildup of pain, but so slow!
I wonder if maybe I just couldnt take the machines? Both ladies use the thermolysis machine instatron, and it doesnt look new or computerized. I had third lady say her new , computerized machine woudl make it more comfortable for me. HOwever, since I have had such pain with thermolysis on the instatrons, I"d hate to travel to see computerized lady and have it not be possible.
For now I will stick with galvanic since I know it works for me, but do you think I might be better witha computerized thermolysis machine, if even the lowest setting on the instatron was too painful?
re: location. I’d rather not put my location on for privacy, but I talked to both you and James and there weren’t any referalls for my area

Flash is thermolysis that is extremely fast, with higher power levels to keep the amount of energy enough to kill hair germinative cells. The major difference in action, is that thermolysis kills hair by coagulation, whereas flash kills hair by desication - (dries out all moisture surrounding the probe).
Thermolysis travels a greater distance because the pulses are left on longer. This allows the heat to travel to where the nerve endings are on each hair follicle. Flash is able to keep the affected area to a very small area. Such that insertion depth becomes extremely important.
It sounds as if galvanic is working for you. Galvanic just takes longer to accomplish its task as it works by chemical decomposition. Hopefully, the person who is performing this service, knows that no metal should be on your person between the ground probe and the area being worked on, as dc current takes the path of least resistance and will flow through places with metal. Also galvanic is contraindicated in those who are pregnant, or for those who have a pacemaker.
If you can afford the time involved then galvanic should serve you very well. It just takes a lot longer.
Yes, a highly skilled operator could make your treatments with the Instantron more comfortable. I have had treatments with Instantrons that felt decent, but those were done by practitioners who had over ten years experience at making the machine work well and comfortable at the same time. Computerized electrolysis machines make that happen without requiring many years of getting it right.
i asked about the metal and she said she has never heard of that. i didnt experience any probs, even on my belly button. I don’t know how good I feel about that though
I will try another woman soon! I guess I am just sensitive bc even the galvanic hurts a lot and many hairs seemed to be pulled out (not plucked, but maybe not loosened enough either )so perhaps i am just sensitive what would otherwise be the ideal current.
Also, it seemed like when she jiggled the probe that hurt more… its that a typical tactic? I thought maybe it would be irritating the follicle to have a probe jiggling aroudn inside it
thermolysis and especially microflash hurts less in my opinion, especially with a newer machine. you shouldn’t be worried about that. plus, with galvanic, the probe is held in the follicle a long time. with thermolysi, it’s only a few secs.
Since it is hard to hold anything stock still for 60 seconds, I won’t really go into the question of is she purposely moving the probe, or is that just the normal movement of holding the probe for the duration of the Galvanic Treatment.
