First Treatment with ELOS,

Hi,

I am having my first treatment on saturday with the ELOS Laser. This is for my stomach…the hairs are very dark and a little coarse. I am female by the way. I am also planning on getting a few of the dark coarse hairs on my nipples treated too.

Anyone have any experience with the removal of this type of hair with the ELOS laser??? If so could you let me know. I’ve tried looking it up on the net but I cant really find any info at all.

ALSO I’m suspicious of the price. It’s only $40 per session for my snail trail (Australian Dollars). This seems SO cheap to me. Not that I know anything.

oh and…is ELOS permanent…after several treatments of course>>>

I’ve gotten treated by ELOS at American Laser Center once I did have shedding on coarse hair.

thats a good thing yeah?

ELOS The link is here. But when going to this link and seeing their ‘explanatory’ website graphics, keep in mind the fact that they are marketing here and this company has never proven all their claims. THEIR scientific reasoning isn’t necessarily THE scientific reasoning.

ELOS is a term that the Syneron company uses to describe their method of combining Radio Frequency generated heat (aka RF) with optical energy, such as laser light or Intense Pulse Flashlamp light (IPL). They claim that combining this radio frequency heat synergistically, applied at the same time, boosts the killing power of the light source that is being concurrently applied. So, when you get an ELOS treatment, there are two settings involved: Joules, which is the fluence of the optical light, and the ‘RF’ setting which is how much boost heat is being applied. Booth can hurt when turned up, the laser or flashlamp can actually be effective if the RF isn’t even turned on at all, and the RF by itself, alone won’t do anything. If somebody has lighter skin, it allows them to turn up the light and leave the RF as a moderate boost. If somebody has dark/really tan skin, they crank up the RF and use as much light-based power as possible sparingly without burning the client.

To date, I’m of the mind, that ELOS treatments are something that have had their day. The idea was more exciting in theory about three or four years ago, but the treatments just didn’t produce the hair loss that the more ‘meat and potatos’ Candela GentleLase produced, a laser older in technology, but with a better track record and more widespread use. The ELOS marketers claimed blond and grey hair removal, but honstly, this has never been seen. Further, I personally know two african americans that outright said the treatments were a complete waste of money and later opted for electrolysis.

I personally had five elos treatments with the Syneron Comet. It resulted in no hair loss in some areas, and about 10%-20% hair loss in other areas. The best hair loss area was the inside of the upper thigh. I had my stomach treated five times as well. It resulted in little, if any at all, hair loss. My chief concern was the vascular disruption I began to witness under the dermis in this area. It appears as half inch or so bruising spots(which it exactly pretty much is) and it can remain for years. Technically it is called Eurythrothrombosis, it was researched by a dermatological group in Isreal, and it is most common with Diode lasers. This is what my elos treatment in particular consisted of, a Diode laser mixed with RF. And I seriously think the RF only adds to the thrombolytic properties of the diode laser’s wavelength spectra, and how it interacts with capillary vasculature.

On the whole? Go look on ebay, look how many elos systems are being let go, look at how many YAG and diode systems are being let go. Clinics are shedding these outdated and ineffective tools. I would go with a more traditional and proven laser like the GentleLase. If laser is going to work for you, that could be your best bet. If you want a more surefire diehard method, go with electrolysis, it never fails.

Sure $40 dollars is nothing compared to what some of us have paid, but why take risks with something that can turn around and cause an increase in hair growth, or offer a false hope. Then, it’s going to get really expensive. I say leave the elos system alone. Look around more.

Electrolysis, since 1875

most professionals have come to the conclusion that Elos (or RF) doesn’t work. It’s marketing hype. You should be using electrolysis on that area. I guess you can try it. That price seems fine for such a small area, but I have a feeling you will go to electrolysis after not seeing results from this. I have had that area with same type of hair treated with the best machine, GentleLASE, and it still didn’t produce as good of results as it did on the areas with coarse hair. I doubt this will be any better, since usually it is worse. Shedding is a good sign that the hair was affected, but it doesn’t mean it was permanently affected. That is often the case with IPL treatments. Not strong enough to target the hair specifically and kill it (which is what this is).

I thought that laser treatment was supposed to be good for areas with dark course hair and light skin?

I’m not using it on my face…just stomach - which has dark hair…and not fine.

I rang the place Im having it done at and they said the penetration is set at 680-980 nm

does this help?

also…you said the company has never proven their claims…but over here in australia their machine or whatever you call it…has been approved by the therapeutic goods association which is an independent government regulatory body.

And also the clinic offers a 100% money back guarantee if you dont get the results they claim you will get within 6 treatments…

Everyone here seems to be very anti-laser for anything. I just don’t understand why if lasers are so ineffective…dermatologists etc seem to say they ARE effective.

im so bloody confused right now…can anyone help as my appointment is tomorrow :frowning:

Everyone is not anti-laser here. There are many examples of positive remarks regarding laser and it’s place for hair reduction. The thing with laser is that it is not a cure for every hair problem. There are limitations as to what can be done for certain people. Hair color, body location, type of laser used, technical skill are factors that influence one’s results both positive and negative. I think hairtell has saved people alot of money because the advice given is not for the purpose to boost any particular company or individuals pocket book. The advice here goes forward with all ranges of facts and opinions, some of which people don’t want to hear because it means money and effort.

If you are a good candidate and you actually seek treatment from the most experienced person with the best laser for your problem, you may be very happy. If you have light hair on any color of skin, you will waste your money on laser. If you have dark skin, you may get burned. Everybody wants the fastest way to the end of the tunnel. Everybody wants the trendy thing. Fact is, laser takes you about a year to a year and half to complete as well because of the nature of hair growth cycles.

Read the laser FAQ’s here on hairtell if you don’t have time to read more posts. If you desire to read posts, lagirl and sslhr are good posts to read. Your confusion stems from lack of more information, I’m sorry to say.

What area are you considering for laser? Hair color, coarseness of the hair, skin color that the hair lives on? What type of laser is used? How long have they been in business?

I wish you well and I hope you are one of the many clients that can have their problem solved with laser.

Elos is not a hair removal laser. It’s an IPL. There is a difference. Various machines work to varying degrees. This is one of the worst machines. That’s the point we’re trying to make. If your hair is coarse, you might get some results, but NOT AS GOOD as you can with a true hair removal laser like alexandrite type, such as GentleLASE. Noone wants to spend millions on research proving permenancy, so most claims that themanufacturers make are just claims. Dermatologists do not have any specific training in hair removal at med schools.

Please read the FAQs so you can understand the process better: www.hairremovalforum.com/faq.cfm

All we’re trying to tell you is that laser (and especially IPLs) is not a quick and effortless solution and has many limitations. And the chances of getting good results lessen if you’re not using the best machine out there. Just have realistic expectations and keep in mind that you might get very little result from this, and expect to get electrolysis to finish up on the fine sparse hairs that remain.
