is GentleYAG better than other Nd:yag lasers? im trying to figure out which is better to treat my sideburns, I had no luck with electrolysis, its been 6 months since my last treatment and finally my skin has gotten better!!! ( thank god) electrolysis realy messed up my skin, I had really bad acne, scars and red spots, where i was getting treatment!!
Yes, GentleYag is one of the best for people of color, as long as the human skill factor is present. Being that you are in the great state of California, you shouldn’t have any problem locating a place that has a GentleYag. Of course, that goes ditto for an electrologist, so it is a mystery as to why you ended so unhappy with electrolysis. You will still need the expertise of an electrologist if you go through with laser. You may risk having hair stimulated by laser in this area, so, go into laser knowing that is a possibility.
Electrolysis didn’t mess up your skin, the inept “electrologist” that performed the treatments messed up your skin. Glad you are back to square one concerning the condition of your skin. I sure hope you told your electrologist about your disatisfaction because maybe that would spur her /him to self-analyze and correct. Without going through all 160 of your posts, I’m sure you were advised once or more than once, to sample as many electrologists as possible, especially the ones who follow through with continuing education and who have invested in newer equipment and quality magnification. There is a way to accomplish permanent hair removal via electrolysis expertly, skillfully and professionally, but there are inept practitioners staining the good name of a process that really works. I am sorry that your outcome was underwhelming when it didn’t have to be, roma.
It is. However, how coarse is your hair? Laser, and especially Yags, don’t work well on finer hair, especially on the face.
Laser is not a replacement for electrolysis. Each is best for specific cases and it sounds like electrolysis is what you should be using. However, you need a skilled electrologist - there are no side effects with proper electrolysis. The problems you were having were due to the electrologist, not the method.
some of the hair is really coarse, but I do have fine hair in the mix, Its just so weird, Im still breaking out on the area that I had electrolysis done…
Who were you seeing in California? What was your skin aftercare routine? What routine do you normally follow with your skin for regular maintenance?
I rather not say who… but my skincare routine after each treatment was no sunlight for 48 hours, wash with gentle cleanser twice a day, and my regular routine was/is acne cleanser twice a day, and at nights I use differin for my acne! oh and another question I have for Lagirl, is ive been trying to find a place that uses gentlease, I went on candela’s website, and I only found a few…hmm, just wondering could there be more places, that just arent listed on the candela’s website?

Using all those things may have been a big part of the problem. You shouldn’t be using those drying cleansers and medication on an area that was treated with electrolysis until the area heals compeletely (usually 5-7 days). All you really should be using during that time is witch hazel. The cleansers and medications have chemicals that dry out the skin and cause irritation.

I would not recommend for you to use laser for your situation. It can actually make things worse by inducing more growth. Plus, I seem to remember that you may not be light enough to use GentleLASE at effective settings. What is your skin type? In LA btw, we usually recommend Dr Hamilton in Woodland Hills who’s seen good reviews here. But he has GentleLASE, not GentleYAG.
I see, that might have been the problem, honestly im so scared to do anything , since just recently my skin have been getting better… also my skin type , im goning to post a picture soon!
its very blury, but where I had the hair removed, sideburn, cheeks, I developed red bumps, alot of tiny ones. what would you say my skin type is? I dont tan at all, and wear sunscreen 365 days a year.
I don’t know if that’s the result of electrolysis only. It’s hard to tell. I would advise to change your routine. Is it possible for you to stop using everything you’re currently using and only use witch hazel several times a day? This also includes limiting makeup and just washing your face with water without any cleansers (If you do have to use one, try the Aveeno Ultra-Calming Foaming Cleanser which is very mild and non-drying). Try that for 3-4 weeks and see if you see a difference.
I find that using hydrocortisone cream for a few days reduces the redness.
my skin has gotten better since this picture taken , its slowly healing , do u think im fair enough for Gentlelase?
Judging by the pictures, you look too dark. And like I said before, I don’t think laser will affect your hair even if you were light enough. You should concentrate on figuring out a better skin routine and finding an electrologist who leaves your skin perfect.
lagirl, can you explain why gentleYAG is the most effective laser than other YAG lasers? my skin type is III.
I don’t think you’re a skin type III judging by the pictures. Plus, skin types are not exact. They were made for LHR classification. If you have an ethnic background for example, your skin has underlying pigment which means you’re more likely to burn even if it looks light.
GentleYAG has an 18mm spot size and the pulse goes down to 3ms. That’s why it’s most powerful.
