The question is how long are you going to put off getting permanent hair removal? If you are going to start electrolysis in the next 4 to 6 weeks, it doesn’t matter what you are doing until then. If you are going to procrastinate for another year, you will have made more hairs start to grow, and the ones you already have thicker and darker over the course of the year.
The best case would be to stop plucking, & waxing now, and start shaving & clipping so that you have all the hairs you really have visible to the electrologist from the first treatment. Otherwise, the first clearance you get will be deceiving, as it will only account for about one third of the hair you actually have, and you will begin to believe that the hair removal process is not working as you start to see what looks like MORE HAIRS as you get into the second and third phase of work. This would be an illusion, as the plucking and waxing have made sure that one has never seen all the activly growing hairs at once.
If I were your personal electrologist, I would just tell you to come in, let me strip that hair to bare, and then put you on a maintenance schedule right away. We would do about 2 to 4 hours the first appointment, and then I would see you once a week for the first 3 to 6 weeks while those plucked hairs were coming in. Each appointment would be shorter during this period, with the last probably going only 30 minutes to an hour. Then, it would be time were we could either continue short weekly appointments, or go to once a month appointments. At that time it would be your choice which way to go.
I don’t think I’m procrastinating, I just found this website last week and have to find a good electrologist in Chicago first and want to do further research (just from reading on this board this weekend, I have learned so much more about electrolysis that I never knew before- such as this tweezing thing!)
So since it will probably be at least a month or so before i begin, I will stop with the tweezing and waxing now. (Even though I do worry about shaving b/c I don’t want to look like I have stubble. I’ve never shaved my face in my entire life.) Approximately how long does it take before the tweezed/ waxed hairs starts coming in all at one time (or mostly) after stopping waxing/ tweezing? Is it a few months?
I would like to go in for the initial treatment when that has happened b/c it seems like I will need fewer treatments then and thus spend less money in the long run.

You said in the post:
“This is one of the rare cases where I can say that the two people I listed are people that I have actually had work done with, so I know that they do good work (although I am still trying to get them to update their equipment so they can do good work faster).”
Wondering if you had any idea if they’ve updated their equipment yet? I saw the recent post for someone who used the Apilus Platinum machine and they raved about it. It would be great to find someone that is skilled and has that type of machine.
I’ll definitely start doing some calling around this week to do some research.
I’ve very glad to have found this website with such knowledgable people!
We are glad to help and happy to have you Kristin. You would have a more satisfying situation if you just started this week or next, as you would be able to have the electrologist get to work on hairs you don’t even notice even before you notice them. Then, when the hairs that would all be coming in at the six week mark will also be removed as they come in… hopefully before you even see them, and you will just keep your face clear via electrolysis instead of waiting until you have a full beard to get started and work your way out from a patch of bare skin outward. You would be miserable that way.
I have heard a rumor that Cassi has upgraded her machine, although not to a Platinum. Debbie on the other hand, I have not heard any such rumor.
In any event, if you get started right away, you could just look like you are finished from the start, and keep it that way. The other alternative is to wait 6 weeks and have a full beard and then try to get enough time in to clear it all out.
WoW, you have been here only a small amount of time, and you have already learned to use the search feature, and you even have your location in your profile. You go to the head of the class!
Thank you James for your quick and very helpful response! I will call Cassie tomorrow and see about getting a consultation. I wonder if anyone in Chicago uses the Platinum yet.
And I can’t take the credit for the search feature… you pointed that out to me on my first post when I joined and ask if there were any good electrologists in Chicago!
With the price of the Platinum being $10,000 and scheduled to go up since the american dollar is losing value against the canadian, I doubt you will find many, if any current electrologists who have made the investement to provide their customers with a Platinum. After all, so many of our clients believe we over charge them as it is.
