After researching all possible laser hair removal facilities I really only have 2 choices of type. Those are
Epilight IPL and
Lumina IPL
I kinda wanted to find a true laser (I think) possibly a Gentlelase (I tihnk) but nothing is near me. Anybody any thoughts of the 2 options above? I know IPL has abit of bad press. I am a guy who wants his back and shooulders (if possible) done. I have read that IPL can in fact make the shoulder hair grow more?!?!? I am more concerned with the hair on my back though. I probably have type 2 hair/skin.
Personally I have had been happier with the IPL than the laser. I always use to think laser was more effective than IPL but until I tried them both I actually found that the IPL gave me better results in the short term especially with shedding the hairs quicker and it was a lot less painful but it might be different for everyone.
The worst part about my treatment was that it stimulated darker and thicker hairs to grow in my back, shoulders and the back of my neck. You might be different though but it was a nightmare for me, if I knew those areas could get worse I would have never got them treated. The best way is to get a test patch done on your back and see if the hairs that grow back look any darker or thicker, take photos if you have to so you can compare.
Both IPL and Laser can stimulate hair growth. A true laser is more effective at removing the hair because of the spot sizes available, wave lengths and the pulse. Sid effects are also more common because with IPL’s because of the light source used, IPL’s don’t differentiate as well as laser does between the hair and the skin. So if not used carefully, this can lead to hypo/hyperpigmentation and other associated problems for some.
If you have dark, coarse hair and are skin type III or below, an Alexanderlite e.g. the GentleLASE, Apoggee and so on are your best options. If your skin type is type IV or darker, the nd:YAG is the most suitable for you e.g. GentleYAG, Cynosure Apoggee Elite.
Shedding can differ entirley on the person, for example, lagirl found she had pepper spots on her legs when treating them with LHR (sorry to hijack this bit lagirl, but your the first person who came to mind). Where as I found that I had very few, if any, on my legs, although I seemed to have a lot on my chest for some reason.
Have you tried looking on the Candela website? They keep a list of where and who their machines have gone to, so you could search for a practitioner there.
Tech, you’re not judging “results”. You’re comparing shedding after one treatment. And since it’s on the same area, there is no way to really know if at this point after as many treatments as you’ve had if you would have seen the same pepperspots with laser. Also, pepperspots are a sign of effective treatment. So the “results” are the same.
Thanks for the replies. TO be honest I am now at a bit of a loass at what to do. Have found out that a good electrolysis place is nearby. Could this be the way to go? Below is an image of my (sexy - lol) back.
Hopefully this link works, let us know if it dont.
