IPL effectiveness

Hi,

I’m considering to get my leg, arm, armpit hair removed by IPL, but I’m finding different information everywhere. How effective is IPL treatments exactly, and how much reduction can I expect and how long will this last (will the hairs come back?)The machine they’re using is Cosmolight.

I’m a skin type IV, with olive skin and very coarse black hair. I’ve tried laser removal with diode (Lightsheer) but ended up getting EXTREMELY itchy bumps and hyperpigmentation that lasts for months. And this was at a really low setting.

I just tried testing with IPL and had about 95% shedding, but I’m wondering if I will achieve reduction as I had NO sideeffects (no redness, itching, etc.) I know that YAG might probably be better for me but want to stick with IPL as its considerably cheaper in my area.

Any feedback would be great and much appreciated. Thanks

it’s really impossible to answer your question. we can’t predict your results any more than you can. IPLs can work ok in good hands on coarse hair and light skin. your skin is not too dark, so you might be ok. shedding is already a good sign, however, it’s impossible to tell if the hair is being affected enough to be permanently killed. i would say you would be able to judge effectiveness after about 3-4 treatments with good shedding. you shouldn’t have a lot of hair come in after that many treatments if the hair is actually being affected.

I would personally use a Yag (given good Yag machine and someone who knows what they’re doing operating it) even if it’s slightly more expensive as for me longterm results are worth the extra cost. however, it’s up to you.
