is she doing it right?

James, I hope you don’t advise sk1 “and her friends” to fly to Buffalo like you have for others!

Hmmm, a plane load of clients chartering an international flight… why I never thought of that… Thanks for the idea Tembo!

If uncovering someone decent in her area doesn’t pan out, I will help her and her friends set that up right away

I fail to see what this place has to offer sk1. This is exactly the problem this poor woman is having…she doesn’t want laser and there are too many places pushing the laser option only. It appears that these spa owners think that owning a YAG is the answer to all women of color hair problems in India? They purport that their laser is US FDA APPROVED. That is incorrect. Might be an innocent oversight, but they should have stated CLEARED by the FDA instead. Bugs me every time I see this because it is a a form of hyping that leads women and men to trust that this sexy little gadget is all they need, only to find out, they hair more hair than when they started.

If Sk1 were to contact this place, are you suggesting that she ask for their recommendation for a good electrolysis practitioner?? It’s worth a try, but they are in business to make money with their YAG, not to send the consumer somewhere else.

This is exactly why people fly to Buffalo (well, maybe not from India??). There are not enough James Walker’s out there to help the hairy with his level of speed and expertise. My concern for women of color is heartfelt, because too many times they get shafted by the laser boosters to find out that their only real option is ELECTROLYSIS when they get burnt of induced with more hair growth. As we are hearing from sk1, in her geographical area, the product she needs seem to have been stomped on by the big boys.

So, here is what Kaya says about laser. I didn’t see any mention of services offered concerning electrolysis on the website. Too bad.

Dee, I couldn’t agree with you more.
As I have been reiterating all the time that these these big clinics offer ONLY laser and not electrolysis. And if you ask them about electrolysis they go into the sales pitch mode about how ‘laser is much better and faster than electrolysis which is outdated and causes pitting and scarring’. and they also make you sound very foolish for asking for something vey ‘obsolete and slow’ when they offering the ‘latest, fastest and the best’.
Infact, in the clinic where I took my laser settings, I asked them about electrolysis as an option and it was dismissed instantly . I had not come across this forum at that time and did not any better and comitted the big mistake of falling for their sales talk.
And James, I’m still to hear from you.

Aaahh! Flying from India to buffalo and back every week for 9 months. All the millionaires out there please donate to the cause of one hairy female

As it happens, I have some friends who have residences and relatives in India, so I am waiting for what ever smoke signals, and messages sent by elephant to get back to me, and hopefully get some good news for you. Of course, if you get flooded with millionairs donating to your cause, I look forward to scheduling that charter jet at Buffalo’s Prior Aviation (where Britney Spears lands when coming to Buffalo, because Buffalo-Niagara International Airport is so passe’) and selling out the Chautauqua Resort.

Seriously, I do try to help people find locals who can get the job done, however, some people live in places where travel to someplace else is the only option, and many people come back to me saying they want faster and more comfortable than their locals are offering, and they come to me. Once they do, they usually decide they would rather see me once every 6 to 12 weeks, than to do weekly appointments with their locals.

I went for another consultation yesterday .this clinic too is not a standalone electrology clinic and offers a host of beauty services. The Electrologist led me to a small cubicle where the machine was kept for a test patch. The couch was already occupied by another lady who was getting her legs waxed, so I was made to sit on a chair. As expected, she did not wash her hands, or wear any gloves or use any magnification. The only redeeming point was that she used a new needle. The machine was computerised and had ‘computerised thermolytic blend epilator" written on it and you could set the temp and the time and there were two small rectangular slabs one of which I was given to hold qand the other she put on the floor . Anyway she stood over me and zapped some hairs on my chin one after the another very quickly and a one or two on the cheek. She must have spent around 3 seconds on each hair and i felt a slight tingling. I asked her how will she know at the time of tweezing which hair she had zapped, she replied that the the zapped hairs ’ stand up’. While, I did not feel any discomfort while she was zapping me, I felt a lot of pain when she was tweezing the hairs afterwards. She was very clumsy with the tweezers also and caught my skin with it several times while tweezing.

Does one feel pain wlile tweezing or is it because the hairs were actually plucked out and did not slide out?
And is it possible to make correct insertions on the chin or cheek without magnification while standing over you?
Except for three whitehead like things on my chin my skin in normal.

Please, let me know your opinions

Personally,I really dont have a good feeling about this place the other place I went to (read the first post on this thread) seemed better in comparison to this place.

Doesn’t sound good to me but as these issues come up, why not question them?

“Why don’t you wash your hands, why don’t you glove”?
“How many seconds is the current on as 3 seconds with blend is not long enough”.

“How can you see the tiniest follicle openings with no magnification”?

“I know I should be feeling the sensation while the current is on and the probe is in the follicle but I feel the sensation after the needle is removed; and that sensation is tweezing. What is going on”?

You see, sk1, since you have so few electrologists available in India, you can either stop the treatment that you describe as being insufficient or you can advocate for yourself and at the same time give the electrologist an opportunity to question herself by asking her some of the above noted questions.

There are no electrology schools that I am aware of in India yet. Too bad… but laser is far more lucrative than electrolysis and much easier to learn than electrolysis so you will have lots of laser around and hardly anyone doing electrolysis.

I went for a test patch in another clinic yesterday.
The place was quite clean and cool.
The machine was not computerised and i was made to hold something while the electrologist treated me. She said that she was doing thermolysis. Do you need to hold someting in your hand in thermolysis too is it required only in blend and galvanik?
This time the electrologist used magnification said she couldnt work without it. and used a new needle.
She inserted the needle and I could feel the current thrice for each insertion . Later she, used a tweezer to remove the hairs zapped. I could feel the hairs coming out but i cant diffrentiate whether they were plucked out or they slid ut. How do one tell the difference? Any other way of finding out if the hairs been treated correctly?
And also one drop of blood came out after one insertion. is this a bad sign?
She had treated around 5 hairs on my cheek and my skin is perfectly normal. infact i had difficulty locating which area she treated after 20 minutes. Shouldn’t there be some redness in the treated area for at least 1 hr.

Please let me know if she is doing it right and if I should continue with her. I liked her because she used magnification which the did not. My only concern is whether she is doing it correctly and if she is my search would stop

You are getting closer to receiving a better treatment, so congratulations!

The place is clean. She used magnification. She used a new probe. Your skin looks good. All I can say is, it is good if the hair slides out without you feeling it, but I can’t say if some hairs are resistant because they are not moist, growing anagen hairs or if she is being extra cautious because it is your first encounter with her and she wants to be more conservative. I like that part about her, too. Blood? One time? That can happen occassionally, but shouldn’t happen several times in a treatment. I would question her magnification then.

Holding the indifferent electrode? I don’t know want kind of machine she has or whether she uses a footswitch or not? So that may be okay.

Some of my clients have very little reaction afterwards as far as redness goes and some need a couple hours for the skin to go back to normal. Don’t fret about this, but rather rejoice if this happens to you and she is still affecting the hair. Problem is, you won’t know if she is giving you effective treatments until somewhere down the road. That’s where the blind trust comes into play.

I would definitely continue with her and ask her these same questions. Develop a relationship so she teaches you as you go. If she is worth her salt, she will be glad to educate you through the process. Hopefully, she won’t take the control freak attitude of “just let me worry about all those questions. You just relax”. Oh, all this is said with a good dog pat on the head. Don’t let someone you hire treat you like that. I think she sounds very promising.

Did she wash her hands and wear gloves?

Dee

Thanks Dee for your prompt reply.
The machine used was the one which I had describes in my first post and is made in India .It was a rectangular box of about 12106inch .On its front it had a knob for thermolysis and another for electrolysis both of which had settings from 1 to 10 but was set to 5 while there was a third switch labelled ‘electro-blend’ and a lever where you could chose between foot mode and hand mode.
I was given a device wrapped with cotton soaked in a green liquiod to hold while she did the thermolysis. And I think this time she used a foot pedal.
And No, She did not wash her hands or wear any gloves but I can take care of this problem by going with a hand sanitizer.
I think I 'll give her a try

Good plan. Come back and share.

Since we did mention this earlier and I have not discussed it with the folks at Apilus, I can now report that they said the reason they don’t have an apilus academy in India nor apilus machines known to be in India is the lack of an Indian network and a lack of Indian investors. The machine situation is due to the fact that the country wants the equipment to be fully manufactured in India, or at least assembled in India in order for them to be for sale in the country. This is a large hurdle to widespread availability in this nation.

I will let you know if I get any smoke signals back about actual practitioners.
Of course, if there were an investor who wanted to set it up, both the equipment and a school and a network of offices could be set up.
