Is there a reason to start low and increase ?

I’ve read from alot of people that practitioners start at lower settings and then increase on later sessions. I can imagine they do it for safety reasons. But is that the only reason or do they follow some kind of strategy to kill the hair ? Like is there some hair that gets killed better at 16J than at 18J for example ?

Also, when it’s for safety reasons, why don’t they do 2-3 test spots at different settings and then go with the max instead of increasing slightly and wasting time ?

Often in the beginning you have more hair and it is denser, to do too much power up front might cause damage. As the hair gets thinner from treatments, they can crank the power since the hairs are more spread out?

Just my guess, but I have heard that more than once from a laser tech.

they do it for safety reasons only, as you are suspecting, especially when you start out with very dense coarse hair when the post-treatment reaction is the worst.
