Obviously, Retin A causes photosensitivity and cannot be used at the same time as laser. How long, though, must one go before stopping Retin A and starting laser treatment? I am using Retin A on my abdomen (for stretch marks caused by rapid weight gain and then loss) but also need laser in that area. Is six weeks enough? Two months? Anybody know?
We ask people to stop using Retin A for about 2 or 3 days prior to treatment and not to resume for about a week after. I don’t think there is any problem treating after 2 or 3 days on topical Retin A.
A retinoid product used for acne (Accutane) should not be used during laser treatments because it can induce scar formation. We ask people to wait at least 6 months after using the medication before doing any kind of laser treatment. Even though the drug is out of the system pretty quickly, the scar inducing action can last much longer.
