I have to maintain a clean shaven appearance for work on a daily basis. After much thought I decided to have laser hair removal on my neck (to start) just this past Monday (Oct 9). I wish I would have found this Forum before the procedure.
I have light skin and very dark very thick hair. After the treatment my neck remained red and raised for at least 24 hours. The next day everywhere the laser had zapped me my skin was light red and formed little whiteheads in hair follicles. The third day 80% of the white heads where gone and today, the forth day, my neck is still red in the areas where zapped and little sore to the touch.
I went to ALC and everything she told me wouldn’t happen did, mostly the whiteheads and irritated skin. I was given a lotion which I use as much as needed to help on the areas.
My question is, is this reaction normal for the neck being zapped? If so how long can I expect these conditions?
I haven’t shaved since the procedure because I am afraid it will only irritate the areas more but I am going to have to tomorrow for my military drill weekend.
are they using an IPL called Aurora on you? Irritation shouldn’t last for more than a week or so. I wouldn’t use lotions. Aloe vera should be soothing.
All the irritation is 100% gone know and absolutely no hair in the areas where preformed. It’s a little patching right now but I wasn’t figured it will be until completely done.
Did you get bad irritation every time, cause I was told it wouldn’t be as bad after the first?
adj, you didn’t answer important questions: what laser or IPL is being used? That will make a huge difference. Since you’re not removing your entire beard and just doing the neck, you will be fine and patchiness is not a large concern. there are other posts here from guys that had just the neck area done and were happy with results. the issue here is the place where you’re getting treated. As jimmyjames experienced, besides the fact that the people operating the machines at this chain don’t know what they’re doing at most locations, they use often the Aurora IPL or the Comet laser/IPL which do not seem to get good results, especially if your hair is not black and skin is not very light.
that’s a new diode laser and no results reported yet. so we don’t know how good or bad it is. only this chain uses it now that they got a new contract with this company that produces them. pulse and spot size setting is important as well. 22 joules is low on a diode if your skin is light, especially if they’re using a high pulse and a low spot size.
I do have light skin and very dark, very dense hair. Its been 3 weeks and everywhere the laser was used the hair is gone. My only complaint is my skin reaction for the first 8-9 days. It was red and alot of little whiteheads appeared on the areas. Other then that I think everything went good so far, however I am not looking forward to the same reaction next visit.
I believe that using Aloe, as sugested by you, really heealped the healing process. ALC gave me some lotion that really didn’t seem to help any.
i would stay away from doing anything that would cause the area to sweat. that might be contributing to more white heads than necessary. just keep the area dry and clean and make sure it’s clean when the laser is applied.
