laser versus electrolysis

Hi all. I am new to this forum and need little help. I am really trying to figure out what to do about this unwanted facial hair.
I have an electrolysis who is good but she takes my kindness as a weakness. She has stopped in the middle of my procedure on several times to answer the phones, etc. I always feel as if i am being short changed. But she does a really good job. I tried to go to another electrologist and I could feel her pulling the hair out, so I knew that she wasn’t as good as my first electrologist. I pretty much chose to do electrolysis because it worked for me financially. I could go and have a few treatments opposed to having to put up the money for laser. Well this past week I visited a laser center and they quoted me almost $1,500. for my upper lip and tummy trail. What should I do? I can’t afford this but I can’t continue going to my electrologist who doesn’t respect me enough to time the session or to give me her undivided attention when I am there. I can’t say anything to her because I would feel very uncomfortable afterwards. Should I just suck it up and continue to go because she is the cheapest in the area. Or should I go to another electrolysis who may charge more and see how she works out? OR should I just invest in laser?
I am sorry this post is all over the place…hope its understood!

Laser and electrolysis are not interchangeable in this way. Laser is best for dark coarse dense hair only. Electrolysis is necessary for any finer hair, epsecially on a womans face’s where treating that type of hair with laser can cause more growht. If you don’t have dense coarse hair, especially on your face, laser is not a good option for you, period. So it’s not even worth considering. This is explained in the FAQs below. Take a look and do some research.

What I would recommend is for you to talk to your electrologist. Let her know what you’re thinking and you may get very positive response. Approach it in a positive way and tell her you like her work the best, but would be happier if certain things were improved etc.

you should take a few things into consideration. #1- laser is NOT a permanent hair removal method. It can only POSSIBLY be a reduction. #2- Your electrologist should not be answering phones and getting up during your treatment. You are paying for that time. #3- Cheaper and faster does not=good treatment. I really hope you can find a good office to visit. Ask questions! A good operator will be happy to answer you. Call around, go on some consultations. My advice would be to continue electrolysis. Not to get laser. Laser is a guessing game. Especially on your face. (I am an electrologist)

With e-mail and voicemail available, why do electrologists interrupt sessions with clients? Electrologists can certainly run a business well if they educate their clients that if they don’t answer the phone, they are probably busy at work and will return their call asap. Oh, and they should keep that promise.

Many of my clients e-mail me for appointments and it’s no big deal. They actually like this better and so do I. This may not work for all practices, but it works well for mine as I don’t like interruptions where I have to wash and re-glove and the client does not like feeling anxiety that the phone call is cutting into their time or the electrologist is not re-washing and re-gloving after touching a germy phone.

As stated above, laser is not the answer for your situation. This is not a $1,500 investment that will ultimately make you satisfied. Hopefully, you have other electrologists to consult with and compare. Some communities have “packs” of electrologists that use the same equipment and do so many things the same old way. You will indeed be a lucky lady if you can find someone who has a hygenic office, skill, and uses modern tools to enhance that skill. Electrolysis is the better choice, hands down for you, but it becomes very understandable to me when consumers look to laser hair reduction when electrologists do not offer the best that they possibly can.

I think you will help yourself and your practitioner if you state your concerns to her. You can do this in a polite way. It is worth a try regardless of your feelings about possibly offending her. Most businesses profit greatly from customers giving them positive or negative feedback.

Thanks for all of the input from everyone. I have been calling around to some other electrologist for prices and I think I will just try someone else out. Because,I am a bit “scared” to confront her. Also after reading the previous post, I realized that my electrologist cross contaminates all of the time. She never wears gloves and I have never seen her wash her hands before touching my face. I guess I never thought about it before. I am glad I came on here. I will try someone else, even if they are a bit more expensive. I also will take everyone’s advice and forget about laser, and stick with electrolysis.

Just to clarify, laser IS permanent. It just should only be used in situations where it makes sense and it works as it doesn’t work on all types of hair.

If you provide your location, we can possibly help with electrologist recommendations.
