Lazer not working - any ideas?

Hello - I have a question. I’ve had lazer hair removal six times (4 at one place, 2 at another) and have found no reduction at all. In fact, it seems like there is even more hair.

I have dark hair, white skin, and when I pluck out a hair, it is white at the very tip … the rest is dark, but the part in my skin is white. Is there a specific lazer I should look for, or anything else I should try ?

I’ve had the GentleLASE Plus, and I’m not sure what the 2nd one was …

Any help would be great. Thanks so much!!

Area where you are having laser hair reduction???

what area? what settings? are you male or female? how coarse is the hair? did you see the hair shed after each treatment?

Thanks for replying

I had my shoulders/upper back, upper arms, chest and stomach done. I’m a male … the hair is pretty coarse (especially chest) because I’ve shaved it quite a bit …
And yes, the hair did shed a bit, however, the lady that did the treatment said that it should have shed way more … it never shed to the point where I was hairless, it’s like half of it shed so that it looked reduced … that’s when she plucked the hair and said that perhaps her machine wasn’t catching it because the end of the hair was white … and now it’s all grown back, even more than before it seems.

How far are you spacing the treatments? Those white tips are an indication that the hair is not in anagen and unaffected by the laser.

Just so you know, shaving does not make hair grow darker or thicker. Seriously, biggest myth in hair removal.

This is an interesting issue for me. I’m about to start laser on my back. I’m about a type 2, with light brown hair. Every hair I pull out has a white bulb. For each hair, about 90% of it is brown, but it gets light/white close to the bulb and the bulb is white. I’ve plucked a bunch of hairs, and they’re all like this. Any ideas as if this is treatable? For those who have had successful laser, do you have a similar or dissimilar hair structure?

Thanks,
Brian

The white on the ends that you only see when you pluck it out just means that the hair is in the shedding phase. It’s not attached to the root anymore, so it can’t be killed. Those hairs will have to be killed when they come in again in the next phase.

For the OP:

It sounds like you’re not in very good hands. Upper arms and shoulders do not get good results. You shouldn’t be treating them with laser unless the hair is very dark, dense and coarse and they’re using very high settings. Otherwise, only electrolysis for this area.

However, laser gets good results on dark coarse hair on chest and abdomen for example. It sounds like settings were probably too low if a lot of hair didn’t shed. If I were you, I would go to the GentleLASE place and have several treatments on this area at high settings. It’s hard to tell you anything without knowing what settings they tried in the first place. But in general, effective settings would be on 18mm spot size and above 14 joules, after which all hair should shed within 3 weeks.

Please outline every area you want to treat, the type of hair on each specific area, and the color of the skin on each area. Then we can recommend a course of action to get you results.

It would also help if you can call the clinic and find out exact machine and settings used each time. Also, would be helpful to have a description of what happened after each treatment on each area.
