My treatment

No problem man.
As a matter of fact I do not have hair low on my neck, but I have to say among my friends I am an exception.
Because almost ALL of my friends have it low on the neck.
Also that is very VERY normal my friend.
They always complain to me ah I wish I had it like you so it wouldn’t irritate that much during shaving…
The irritation is the only thing friends complain about…But never EVER was there one who mentioned not liking the looks…Becaue, like I said to you before, almost all guys have that…

So relax man, you’re just a man like all of us men
We have to shave…One person more than the other.

Remember it is your mind…Your mind has been pre-occupied with something all other minds haven’t…
So other minds will never look the way to your beard as your own 'historically preoccupied’mind.
So what I am trying to say is that another person’s mind will not notice the way your beard grows…

I bet in a couple of years, like me ( I am 28 now)…You’ll think…Haha what was I thinking…

Glad I could be of some help.

Hey Cool,

My thoughts…Man Ya’ll are lucky! I wish I had a ‘beard line’. Basically My hairline is connected to my browline, which is connected to my beardline, which runs into my chest hair and on down to my toes! Same on the back of the neck. So I just create my own lines as I see fit I guess. As for shaving high, I just try and not shave off my lower eyelashes!
But, though I havent started electrolysis, I have chosen my practitioner and begun saving for this massive overhaul. Entire beard, chest, back…basically all but my legs. Poor Mr. Walker.
Bust of luck with you Cool, I think it’s all worth it in the end! J

Ok, the last time I saw her was 14 days ago. Today I had another appointment.
We spent 42 minutes on my face and 18 minutes on the back of my neck. As of today I have been seeing her for the back of my neck for exactly 5 months, 2 months for my face. And how about this, the last time I tweezed hairs on my face was December 4 2008 (in total 7 years of tweezing, once a week, this of course refers to tweezing hairs above beard line) Man, that tweezing stuff really hurt.

Ok today I had an appointment. We spent an hour doing my face.
Today I actually brought a black marker and made a line with it on my face. So it was much easier for her to see exactly where I want my beard line to be.

Ok 45 minute appointment today. We spent 30 mins on my cheeks and 15 on back of my neck. I have to admit I really regret having shaved the back of my neck after we started electrolysis. The sessions have been painful since then. I miss the days where I would go for the back of my neck and really enjoy it. Now I don’t really enjoy it becauae I guess skin that has been cut by a razor is kind of injured so it’s painful during electrolysis.

Shaving shouldn’t make a difference in sensation???

No shaving does make a difference in sensation because it tends to “injure” the region that is being treated. If you shave a normal portion of your body then no injury occurs. But if you shave a region that’s been treated with electrolysis it seems to have some effect on the skin (my experience). So, back in the days when I didn’t shave the back of my neck I didn’t feel much pain during electrolysis. But now that I have shaved it seems the razor has injured my skin.
Maybe it’s not that. As I am typing this message, I am thinking maybe it has to do with the idea that shaved hairs are more resistant? So, it’s more difficult for them to come off. I know shaving doesn’t create thicker hairs but it perhaps makes them more resistable to coming out.
In any case, it makes the experience of electrolyis more unpleasant that before.

Okay.

So Dee are you saying that even after shaving an area treatd with electrolysis your patients do not experience new unpleasant pain?

For my clients, if they wait three to seven days after treatment before shaving over the treated area (easy to do since I clear the entire area out, and they would not have new hair to shave in that amount of time anyway) then, they don’t have any unpleasant sensations when they do shave the next week.

I would imagine that Dee would report the same thing.

Never heard a word of complaint. Your experience is something new for me. I like when clients shave. It’s a symbiotic relationship. It helps them and it helps me. I also recognize that everyone is different and I don’t dare tell someone else that what they are feeling is impossible.

Since you weren’t shaving the area before, do you have to shave now? Could you just clip or trim?

I’ve never had a client be more sensitive due to shaving an area, but then again, like James, I ask them not to shave over a freshly treated area.

The thing is it’s because I shave say 2 days before the session that makes it unpleasant. It’s still the impact of the very first time I shaved that area (and I believe I first did this in January, I can’t remember fully well). The good news is hopefully hairs will not grow back in that area in a year or less. My upper cheeks I have not shaved them at all but I used to tweeze those hairs. Amazing how tweezing hairs doesn’t make electrolysis painful (on my cheeks) but shaving does (on back of my neck) for me.
And to answer Choice’s question(s) I could just trim those hairs now but it wouldn’t get rid of the pain because it is the result of first time shaving.
The way I would describe the pain is that it’s as if you are taking hairs out of an area whose top skin has been cut by a sharp knife. Not pleasant (but I haven’t complained to her about it because she’s such a nice person).

Mention this to your electrologist as an observation, rather than a complaint. Maybe she increased the settings since she thought you had a good tolerance. I rarely tell my clients before I raise my settings, I don’t want to psych them out. I tell them after the treatment is over and ask them to keep an eye on their skin.

Update time. Last week 45 mins on my face. This week 30 mins on my face plus 12 mins for the back of my neck.
For the past 10 days I have been using a new shave gel to shave the back of my neck, and today although it wasn’t too great, it was much better than before. I am thinking maybe my previous shaving gel didn’t provide enough protection on my skin.
The real great news today for me was the amount of time required on my neck. I started at the end of Sept./2008. First session was 1 hr, then 2 weeks later 45 mins, then again 2 weeks later 45 mins. Since the end of January she has been able to remove all available hairs in 2 sessions of 12-15 minutes for each month.

SHAZAM! This is sounding very, very good and very typical. The first six months is the hardest and you’re almost past the hardest part…

Dee

Yes, and now you can appreciate the Electrolysis Industry Joke:

Good Electrolysis Providers lose all their best customers.
(Because they actually finish the job!)

Ok, yesterday 25 mins on my face. I made a correction in my signature. She has been using thermolysis for the back of my neck.
The bad news is I will be moving away from Ottawa soon to somewhere else close to Toronto, meaning I have to look for another practitioner. :frowning:
The good news is it looks like James W.Walker would be closer.
I looked in google and it seems I could be in Buffalo in 1h22 by car.
So “maybe” I will go see James to the rest of it, that’s of course if he accepts Canadian customers.

I don’t know…
Canadians…
Maybe if they bring me some French Language stuff not available in the US… Like Celine Dion in French.

Actually, I have lots of Canadians. We joke about the difference between Tim Hortons here and Tim Hortons there… You could bring me some chocolate chip muffins from Tim’s

An update. In a few days I will post the # of sessions and costs in detail for everyone to see. Today was a good day. You see we have not done the back of my neck for 4 weeks ok. So get this, it only took 30 mins to remove the hairs with BLEND. Yeah today just for fun we both agreed to try blend as the hairs have become much weaker than they were back in October of 2008.

If we had used thermolysis those hairs would be removed in max. 15 mins. So WOW!! It’s working!! What took 2 hours per month (by thermolysis) only requires max. 15 mins a month (after 7 months).

Last week, we did 1 hour on my face, and today 30 mins on my face.
