I scanned this quickly, so may have missed something - no tweezing, right? Ingrowns are often caused by tweezing hair, and if a client tweezes, then a high percentage of hairs are hidden.
I plucked when I was first getting the hairs but got ingrowns so I’ve only been trimming them since early summer. She told me that the redness usually goes with 1-2 hours, I just have sensitive skin so I’m just worried.
I’ll keep the appointment for Sunday and see how it goes. The concealer I use is non-comodgenic and fragrance free, etc. So I don’t think it’ll bother the area.
Thanks all you wonderful people who are giving me feedback! Once I see the results from my chin, I may want to do other areas!
That how it usually goes. One area is permanently treated, client is happy and then they are jazzed to go on to other areas.
Good luck!

Hey yall! So I had my first treatment today and let me just say…I had zero discomfort, I have barely any redness and I felt no tugging/plucking. She was so easy on me and it was over in less then 10 minutes. It’s pink right now and she put aloe on me before I left and said to use more aloe or witch hazel in a few hours. I’m completely happy so as long as I can avoid ingrowns I’m good to go!
I forgot to ask which method she used. I saw the machine and she was clicking something with her feet to control the voltage.
Hey yall, so I had my first follow up and she saw no new growth and got a few other hairs but I was only there for a 5 minute session. No redness, no pain and no tugging. I could do this on my lunch break and be fine! I love this
Hey!!!
I just want to give you guys an update, the darker hairs on my face are growing so slow now that I only have to get a 5 minute treatment every 2-3 weeks. I still have a ton of nasty blonde hair all-over that I want done.
I use nair on my blonde facial hair, could I continue to use it once I begin having all areas treated?
It would be better to clip. Nair will dissolve the hair below the skin line a little bit, so it may not all be available treat when you are laying on the table.
Don’t forget the very real possibility of chemical burns and weeping scabs from use of Nair type products. (they don’t smell all that great either)
If one decides to use an ice-pack after treatment- should they do so before or after applying the witch hazel and aloe? It seems like after would be more convenient since she can apply it in the office and then one could ice in the car.Would it even be ok to wait for an hour or so after treatment to do the icing at home (so as to avoid the hassle of a cooler) or is it important enough to do it quickly after treatment?
What difference does it make if the aloe is cold? Is this purely for comfort or does it help with healing more when it is cold? If you reapply witch hazel and/or aloe throughout the day should you wash your face again each time or just reapply, saving washing for only morning and night?
It was mentioned above to take a pain med 1.5 hours before treatment but in other threads 1/2 hour before treatment is recommended. Which is best? I’m not trying to knit-pick! I am new to this process and just want to get on and stay on the best schedule for before and after treatment.
The ice can be used before or after Aloe Vera.
30 minutes prior on pain meds is a minimum.
Alli dear,
I apply chilled aloe vera gel right after treatment. I have a little refrigerator in my treatment room so the aloe is always chilled when I apply it. Then I wrap a small plastic ice pack in 3 x 3 cotton gauze so the ice is not exposed directly to the skin. The client can ice as we talk at the end or in the car if they feel comfortable doing so. The ice pack only lasts 5-10 minutes depending on the weather outside. It is soothing and helps to start the healing process by reducing inflammation and swelling. I really don’t think you need to ice thereafter unless your electrologist recommends it. That proceedure works well for me and my clients, so I thought I would share.
Sometimes I use tea tree oil afterwards. Decisions to use one or the other depends on skin types and client preferences.
Wash your face before applying new witch hazel and aloe during the day. Use a very mild soap like Purpose.
Pain medication: minimum is 30 minutes. Some pain meds peak at 1-1 1/2 hours, some take longer. Find out when your particular pain medication peaks, or is the the strongest and take accordingly.

Thank you… I take regular ibuprofen. Does anyone know how long it takes to kick in?
In under an hour, usually around the 30 minute mark. Peaks in 2-4 hours. Food may delay the absorption by 30-60 minutes, but some people need to take it with food because it can irritate the stomach.
