Question about American Laser Centers

SRS is not for a man’s back though…

I know that, you silly - I was just guessing that they were talking about the same procedure (the only times I have ever heard of it being used are SRS and skin grafting to certain parts like inside mouth or something similar).

umm… she wasnt talking about her doing the procedure on me… she was talking about some clients she had that had gone that route. she told me that the only people she heard of doing that were males with extremely hairy butts that were always getting ingrowns that were very painful to have to sit on all the time. she said that dermatologists or plastic surgons scrape the skin down the below the follical and the skin grows back but the follicle has been scraped out…

Tom, we’re just saying we’ve never heard of this being used on any other area but for the certain specific areas for transsexual purposes. Does she know anyone specific who does this on other areas?

Nikki, yes, I was just surprised someone mentioned doing this on a man’s back…I don’t think I’ve ever heard of this being done anywhere.

Isn’t this “follicle scraping” procedure done during surgery (such as SRS) and effectively is treating the underside of the skin? I read that many surgeons have stopped doing this in favor of the client using LHR and/or electrolysis as the scraping can damage the skin and its blood supply. Anyway, this is certainly not the procedure for one’s back. I cannot imagine a process performed mechanically on the skin that would sufficiently damage the underlying hair follicles. Lookup “Buckskin Tanning” and you can read all about how hair is removed from animal skin and you’ll see that follicle scrapes appear to be earily similar…

What is SRS?

And as far as scraping down to the follicle, you can do that a whole lot cheaper.

Just douse your back with lighter fluid (gasoline is too flammable), have a friend standing next to you with a working fire extinguisher, and light your back. You need to wait about 5 seconds before putting out the fire. And of course, you can repeat it if you don’t get all the hairs the first time.

BTW, I’m just kidding, so don’t try this at home.

What is SRS?

Sexual Reassignment Surgery (sex change)

well guys i had my first free treatment done on wednesday… i guess ill just wait and see how it turns out! thanks for all your input!

do you know the settings?

oh man! yeah i asked but not i feel lame and forgot!
but i do remember she said i had great skin/hair type for it so they would be able to treat it very aggressivly. so for the pulse i think it was 30 miliseconds, or 3? or something like that. and the joules were set to the highest or second to the highest. and she said because i had light skin they could use a wide area as opposed to small.
sorry i dont have the actual numbers but i think if you know what the highest settings you you may beable to tell?
is that true?

There are 3 variable settings, so we wouldn’t be able to tell. maybe you can call and ask later (joules, spot size, and pulse).

well either way they were all three set to either the most powerful or one step down, i remember that much.

it’s really hard to tell. there are several models of LightSheer lasers, some with 9 and some with 12mm spot sizes. Each have various “auto” settigs. Plus, what one person considers “max” is subjective since there are 3 variables at least. Really no way to tell without numbers. There have been plenty of posts by people who have been told they were using high settings and then they find out they were actually 10 joules or so.

hey everyone, i just want to say that i am so far VERY pleased with my results of the free laser treatment, for about 2 weeks the hair looked like it was growing back and i got really mad, but then all of a sudden id say about 90% of it has fallen out and it looks amazing. i know some is going to grow back later in a few weeks, but i do know that it is going to work for me because of the results im seeing.
i wanted to say thank you for your help everyone. here is a picture 2 1/2 weeks after my first treatment.

click the image and to really see how its coming you can click the “view original size”
it looks like even my very fine hair was treated!

that’s great to hear Tom. If you’re going to do this again, I would say use even higher settings, so you make to kill the hair, not just disrupt it a bit. Good to know it has enough pigment to be treated with laser.

When I saw this, I had to shake my head when they said the lady spent $500 per treatment on an upper lip. I may have been able to finish that upper lip completely for that much, instead of what she did for 2 years $500 a pop, and still has hair and black lines on her mouth.

I’m not defending ALC, but you may want to watch the video again. It was $500 for 6 treatments, not per treatment, and she said “dark lines” not black lines, were noticed after 6 months. I didn’t take it as though she had treatment for 2 years, but rather than this happened 2 1/2 years ago and the hyperpigmentation (and hair) is still there.

alot of people have great results from laser, this story makes laser out to be the worst thing ever, and that you should be super scared about doing it.
lame

My main idea, which I grant I did not say directly, is that I can’t see a person coming to me for an upper lip job getting less than success with 5 to 10 hours spread out over 9 to 18 months, if the client co-operated by coming in on schedule. (and really, most women I see who don’t have PCOS can do it in 5 hours)

I don’t see where the woman saved any money. Her result was unsatisfactory, and the condition her skin was left in is less than what it would be with a competent electrologist.

I would not say that LASER is the worst thing ever, it is, however, a gamble and sometimes you lose.

Tom,
Its good that you are satisfied with your treatment but so are many waxing clients however those waxing clients are not told its permanent. Since laser is new for you, I would love to fast forward and see how you feel about laser in a couple of years.

James, the most important part of your post is "that I can’t see a person coming to me for an upper lip job getting less than success ". I’m sure SSLHR, for example, can say the same thing about his laser treatments vs this notorious clinic’s - i.e. if they came to HIM, this wouldn’t have happened. That video obviously points out what can happen when you get treated by someone inexperienced and somewhere where they only care about your money. The same thing can be said about treatments with an incompetent electrologist, who as you mentioned, can produce zero results and craters.

Arlene. Laser is not new. It’s been around for 10 years now.

These threads always get away from the point - which is a particular laser/electrologist/clinic/treatment, not laser or electrolysis in general, is the main issue.
