Oops. You’re correct. I confused it with GentleLASE in my post. Do let us know how things go. It seems that your underarm settings are working well for you. Maybe they can use similar settings on the other areas.
I had another treatment today. It has been 10 weeks since my last treatment. There was less hair on my underarms at this stage (maybe 20% compared with how much was there to begin with). My bikini had about 40%.
Areas: Underarms (treatment 3), bikini (treatment 2)
Clinic: Avana (Parramatta clinic)
Machine: Candela GentleYag
Pulse: 50ms
Spot size: 12mm
Joules: 36J (bikini), 40J (underarms)
Price: $150 (underarms), $250 (extended bikini), 15% discount for 2 areas. Total was $340
It was painful and i had to take breaks, but i survived! There was mild swelling on my underarms, but it has settled. Both areas are a little tender to touch now (1 hour post-treatment), but other than that everything seems fine.
I recently had another treatment. It has been 10 1/2 weeks since my last one. There was probably a similar amount of hair regrowth as last time (20-30%).
I had a discussion with the technician about my settings as i received some advice from sslhr, particularly about the pulse of 50ms being too high. The lady this time said that the settings were 30/20 - 30ms for the cryogen and i’m assuming the 20 must then refer to the pulse. She didnt really know what the pulse was. She said that they keep it fixed on the machine and rarely adjust it. She didnt know why i was told 50ms before (perhaps because the cryogen and pulse combined make 50ms?)
So in fact, i think all my treatments have then been on a 20ms pulse. I’m hoping that is the case because a pulse of 50ms is on the high side. Its really frustrating that the technicians aren’t as knowledgable as i’d like and i feel like i have to argue with them to get my questions answered. Anyway, here are the details:
Areas: Underarms (treatment 4), bikini (treatment 3)
Clinic: Avana (Parramatta clinic)
Machine: Candela GentleYag
Pulse: ?20ms
Spot size: 12mm
Joules: 38J (bikini), 40J (underarms)
Price: $150 (underarms), $250 (extended bikini), 15% discount for 2 areas. Total was $340
The technician said i didnt really have much regrowth on my underarms and that i might be able to move onto maintenance treatments spaced further apart. We’ll go to 40J on my bikini and 42J on my underarms next time. I think i’ll leave a longer gap before my next treatment, but i’ll post about regrowth in a couple of months.
Is there a reason they’re not using a 15 or 18mm spot size? That will probably make a huge difference in your results.
They claim that they dont have the 15mm or 18mm and that they’ve done a lot of research and that the gentleyag doesnt come in the 15/18mm spots. I have given up trying to argue with them. I have had the same conversation with a number of technicians and we just end up arguing.
I am waiting for another clinic to get in the gentleyag (they said hopefully in about 2 months). For now, i dont feel like i have any other option. The other clinic that i mentioned in a previous post has the coolglide with a 10mm spot, so i’m sticking with the current place at the moment on the 12mm spot, but am on the lookout for any other clinics with yag lasers.
You can possibly try emailing Candela Corporation and asking them whether this can be true. Maybe you can print out the reply and bring it in
