6 years of laser on the same area

Hi all, I am a training electrologist and today we had a young girl come in to start her electrolysis treatment on her face in my clinic. She told us she has been having laser done for 6 years on the same area. My question is how many sessions should a person have of laser and at what point should the laser technician have said lets stop and investigate as to why you still have hair growing. I was thinking if this girl did not find out about electrolysis she probably would have done laser for the rest of her life

Hi zilliah. Welcome to Hairtell!

Do not doubt it, I have a case that was over 10 years of laser before discovering the results of Electrolysis.
The less hair grew, more sorrow for the lost precious years of youth, preventing a man approaches her enough to discover her sad secret.

I had a client who was getting LHR fOR 10years as well at a beauty salon. The sad thing is beautician told her that she was one of those unlucky clients with laser, it worked inreverse for her and that their was no solution for her she is just one of the unlucky ones that had to do laser for life. Lucky for the girl she happened to cross paths with a friend that i was treating who told her all about electrolysis.

Good question Zilliah, maybe one of the laser experts could answer this how many sessions are recommended on the one area? Do laser technicians give an estimate as to when the client should see results? Or is their a point where a laser technician says no more, lets look for other solutions?

I once attended a short trade information, laser seminar. I was curious, because the lecturer was a well respected electolologist. I was never given the impression that the treatment was meant to guarantee anything, in fact hair management was the term that was mainly used. Most of the audience were interested in the return they could expect from such an investment, wheras I questioned the effects of repeated exposures over many years of continuous treatments. This question was answered at length by the company representative who spoke like a politician, and did not answer the question. I left feeling more baffled than ever, and glad that I knew what I was offering my clients, and exacly what outcomes they could expect.

Hi Zillah,

Providing the hair is dark enough and thick enough to respond to Laser. Providing the right Laser at good settings is used. Providing the treatment spacing is optimal. I would say that a maximum of six treatments are needed. For myself and other’s that I have guided personally 3-4 treatments in most body areas have been sufficient to reduce the hairs to the point that only fine hairs that will not respond to further Laser are left. Basically, you should only need to treat each cycle of hair once, sometimes twice (which is why 6-8 treatments are usually quoted) to get the maximum results possible.

The time period for treatments is usually 12-18 months.

With proper spacing, so both client and technician can observe a reduction after the second or third treatment if it’s working.

I cannot say why this technician continued. We hear many strange reports on HairTell. For example, clinics that tell the patients that shedding of the hair after treatment is not necessary. Clinics that schedule appointments every 4 weeks, which is too soon and neither they nor the client can observe what is happening until the client stops completely. Some clinics tell patients that finer hairs just need more treatments; this completely incorrect.

Unfortunately, some clients don’t know any better and if the treatments are giving them a shedding and hair free period, they continue to do them, comparing them to waxing.

Hi Christine, this is probably due to the fact that they do not want to admit that all hair structure cannot be treated with Laser. If they were to admit this, they would need to admit that you have to turn away many clients or inform the client that it may not work and there is no point continuing after X treatments if progress is not being made. There is less incentive to invest in one of their costly machines if this reality is known.

Given what you said about this electrologist’s (in my opinion bizarre) method in another post, I personally feel she does not understand how Laser actually works.

From what point can you say hair is not thick and coarse enough? Here in this forum I was told my hair is quite thick and I should switch to electolysis, in laser clinic I was told that my hair thickness is perfect.

Unfortunately only one clinic in my country offers electrolysis and I got large scars on my upper legs so I can’t go on with electrolysis. And I don’t know if I risk with moving on with laser or not.

We would never say that because your hair is quite thick that you should switch to electrolysis. We say that coarse, dense, dark hair on pale skin is laser worthy and then when the hair gets thinner, no matter the color, you need to switch to electrolysis. Can you find the exact wording that advised you to do electrolysis for thick hair? If your hair is blonde, gray, white, clear, or red, but is thick, then we would advise electrolysis, so perhaps this is the case?

Electrolysis is for every hair structure and color no matter what your skin color you have. If there were no laser, electrolysis would be your only option as it was prior to the end of the last century.

This is what my hair look like.
(It was not only about thickness-it was about how fine and coarse they are.)

thickness = coarseness

Your hair is not thick/coarse. It is on the finer side.

This is known through observation. We usually say the hair should be comparable to bikini or underarm hair for good results. Those of us who have had Laser, know at which point the hairs seem too fine to respond. Your hair is about this level.

You can try one or two sessions of Laser (after doing research) but as long as you are prepared that you may not get many results.

A good electrologist could eliminate this hair easily but I know you have a problem finding someone.

Hello again after a while.

I’ve had 2 Gentlelase treatments on my upperlegs and one on my buttocks. each time the hair falls out and I have a lot more easier period for a month or two because I don’t have to worry about the raserbumps etc. I’ll go for another session tomorrow.

How should I tell after 2 treatments if it is worthy?

Thank you!!!

You can’t reach any conlusions about if it is effective for you yet. You will have to wait and see. How many treatements did they recommend ? If it is going to be effective, you should be able to draw some conclusions in about a year to a year and half after you have had no more treatments.

To Whom It May Concern:
First case: woman’s hand after 12 sessions of laser (alexandrite in winter and diode in summer). This woman is a doctor and received a special offer from the clinic of a professional colleague, 800 € for as many laser sessions as she needed for 10 years. A real bargain, however, a year later she is not happy with the results and decided to start with Electrolysis.

She knows what to expect from the Electrolysis, because most of the hairs of her fingers were removed in two clearances. Here’s the proof.

Whenever she and I see these fingers, she reminds me how silly I was not I take a picture of “before” in the fingers. Yes, I was stupid, this is the most serious case of hypertrichosis in the fingers of a woman I’ve had in 30 years.

I wish I could have taken a plane to Spain last year and get my hands treated by you. :frowning:

You are very young Johnson. A year is not much in your life. Think of the number of women who discover the Electrolysis when they are grandmothers. A lifetime of suffering from excess hair on her face, when the solution was so close.

Woaw Josefa…Hypertrichosis in a woman’s hand…sounds kind of gross!

Sure you did the trick and she’s hand hairfree now

P.S; did you recieve my message?

Looks great!

I allways love to see pictures from you. Its sad that no other electrologists do such a documentation of their work…

I agree, Miro, if all electrologists wanted to share their work, the Electrolysis have the prominence it deserves.
I love the phrase used by my German colleagues of the DVEE “Electrolysis is better than the reputation that precedes it”. Perhaps you, young people who have been lucky enough to discover it, can put it in the right place.

Another case of failure of laser: 16 sessions on the legs of this woman, and that’s how it was before starting the Electrolysis.

Each follicle treated, will be eliminated forever from the first time!!
