This facial hair thing is really getting me down. It’s dark and noticeable even when I shave and I’m plucking out multiple hairs throughout the day, which probably isn’t helping my hyperpigmentation issue from a previous horror treatment I am trying to wait to heal.
I’m at a point where I’m just frustrated and I’m not sure what to do. I read over previous posts and I see success stories and failure stories. I really want to go back to trying electrolysis, but with a different person, except I’m afraid of letting anyone near my face after the last mishap!
Also, since I have hormonal issues that haven’t been treated medically, I’m wondering how effective electrolysis is going to be for me? What are some experiences of treating people with these issues? How much more effective is treatment with medication?
I just want to somehow punch a hole in this issue. It’s really getting my self confidence down. I use to be a much happier and cheerful person!
Electrolysis will not be a waste of time if you are indeed going to address the underlying cause. Getting the medical side of this taken care may help in regard to not having more follicles stimulated now and in the future. Electrolysis will take care of the bothersome follicles that are present now, so why not get started. Your very next important job is to get a medical consult and start a treatment plan. Perhaps androgen blockers will be prescribed to help within.
Electrolysis works for anybody, including YOU. Failures are caused by not performing electrolysis correctly or by patient non-compliance with adhering to a schedule or ceasing tweezing. You cannot tweeze after you start electrolysis. The hair has to be punched hard, without causing highly noticeable skin reaction afterwards that lasts for weeks. It is possible to punch the hair hard and have minimal redness/pinkness and swelling for minutes to a few days, depending on your unique situation. Pinpoint scabs are OKAY. Big scabs that almost connect with each other are not OKAY.
Depression subsides as you see the hair going away over 9-18 months. It really does go away. In fact, that is the most rewarding part of my job when I see women brighten up and become more like their happy, confident selves, before the hair problem took over their lives. Be aggressive about finding someone passionately skilled. That is really the hardest part in some locales. Move out farther if you have to from your locale, by checking out as many electrologists as you can.
Dee speaks nothing but the truth. If new follicles are continuing to sprout hairs, medical assistance is recommended. If you’re still tweezing, you really need to stop. Sometimes, finding a caring, talented, and skilled electrologist is more difficult than enduring the treatment itself. But it’s completely worth the effort.
Here’s a picture of my upper and lower lips from late November 2010:
Here’s a picture of the same area from early April 2011, after approximately five months of electrolysis. During this time two complete clearances were achieved and further progress was made on clearing my chin. Electrolysis does work. If it treats and permanently removes my coarse male whiskers, it should work for you, as well.
Hi there I’m new here and I think this website is amazing.
I’m 24 years old and I started noticing the abnormal hair growth since I was about 14.I started plucking my chin and was waxing my belly, bikini & legs once a month.I had my hormone levels tested and came out with a very high level of testosterone. I had my first electrolysis consultation with a lady who has 25 years of experience and has her own clinic two weeks ago.tomorrow is my first session of an hour. I ordered some suppliments from womentowomen.com for hormone imbalance and was wondering if u guys have any idea if its gona work ? Also, she said tomorrow she’s gona clear my whole chin.would that hair come out as obvious before so that ill have to shave it? I don’t want anyone noticing
P.S. sorry for my english I’m from romania.
To Chewbacca86- I would think that getting the hormonal issues taken care of might help the hair from generating so maybe getting that looked at while you are searching for the best electrologist you can find is a way to feel that you are making progress. This might help get the depression under control as well. Sometimes doing nothing but thinking about it hurts more but taking action, even the smallest action can alleviate the emotions you feel.
To Chigirl - hair that is properly removed in electrolysis will not grow back, but hairs that are in the follicle but shorter than the surface of your skin will become obvious as the hair grows. Those hairs will have to be treated, as will any other hairs that popped up. Hair removal is a marathon, not a 50 meter dash. It takes lots of time (and a fair bit of money) to see success. Now that you are starting treatment, NO MORE PLUCKING. Buy a good pair of scissors for trimming or shave the hairs but don’t remove them with tweezers between treatments.
Yeah my electrologist told me the same thing about tweezers.I’m willing to go for a marathon and hopefully get some good results and I hope my natural supplements will keep new folicles away from activating.
Thank you guys so much for all of the responses/advice. It has been a hard past couple of months for me emotionally, mainly due to this issue. I’m at a point of figuring out how to get rid off all of this hair and getting my skin back in order. This whole ordeal can be so frustrating. I think I will try giving a few electrologist a call and maybe have them do some sample treatments on my body to test their skill and be on the safe side. Going to try and make a doctors appointment as well, although I hate the idea of being put on medication. I still cannot live this way. I’m 25 years old and would like to be able to live my life rather than sit in my house ashamed.
Do check your library for The Diet Cure by Julia Ross, or buy it if you can’t find it in your library. It has good information on hormonal and drug induced hair growth.
I think you can get to a point of peace with this. After all, there is a reason why electrolysis practitioners get invited to weddings, and often placed at the main table on the seating chart. I have had more than one client tell me that I was the reason for the wedding happening, because the bride would never have talked to the groom had my work not been done.
