Back Hair Post Laser Treament, Advice Please

Hello,

I’m nearing the end of 4 years (8 sessions) of laser treatments on my back. All sessions were conducted with the Gentlelase machine (18 spot size, 16-20 joules) and and I experienced pretty good results (approx. 75% clearance). I’m preparing to transition to electrolysis, but I don’t know much about the process. So, based on the photos below, I’m hoping some of you can advise me regarding the following:

1.) Does this area appear suitable for electrolysis?
2.) Can I reasonably expect full, or near full clearance?
3.) How many total hours should I anticipate treatments taking?
4.) Is there a certain type of machine or procedure that is preferable given my hair?

Like I said, I know very little about this process and am very appreciative of any advice.

Thanks

The first two pics are before treatment, the third if 8 mos after my final laser session.

Okay, laser did a pretty good job reducing your back hair considering how severe a case you had. It still looks like you could benefit from more laser treatments. If the laser specialists here think not, then, yes indeed, electrolysis will work for the remaining hairs. First clearance depends on the electrologist you choose and how long you are willing and able to lay on the table.

I would consider trying to find a very competent MicroFlash or PicoFlash thermolysis electrologist. Do you live in a city that has several electrologists that you can get consults with?

Yes, I am also confused by the timing of the laser treatments hitherto.

In my opinion, you might benefit from 1-3 more treatments, but the remaining hair is getting fine.

Ultimately, you will still need electrolysis. If you could find a competent electrologist doing flash thermolysis, I would probably just get going with that soon.

As Dee mentioned, the time needed for your first clearance is a function of your electrologist’s speed and capability, and how many hours you’re willing to put in up front.

Technically, I’ve had sessions spread out over the past 3 years and seven months. As I stated, my last treatment was 8 months ago, so I had 8 treatments spread across 2 years eleven months. My first six treatments were spaced every four months, the last two every six months. I know this is on the longer side, but honestly there isn’t enough regrowth at 3 or 4 months to justify it anymore. After the last two treatments, I noticed about 20% additional reduction.

As for additional treatments, I had one last week after taking the photo. My tech suggested trying the new Duet machine with the understanding that she’d retreat with the Gentlelase if I’m dissatisfied. I plan one or two more treatments before electrolysis, but I wanted to begin researching now.

I advised him to go for electrolysis at this point. I don’t think more laser is worth it.

Here are my tips:

  • Find 3-4 electrologists in your area and schedule sample treatments.

  • Preferably, they use the faster thermolysis method, which removes 5-10 hairs per minute given an average electrologist (you can estimate timing based on # of hairs you have). Blend is slower and fine too if good thermolysis is not available. If you can find someone using an Apilus machine, even better.

  • When you go for sample treatments watch for plucking. You want the hairs to slide out without much resistance after being zapped. That’s good electrolysis, in addition to no horrible side effects

  • Buy some witch hazel to use for aftercare during the day and tea tree oil at night.

  • Schedule longer treatments up front to clear the area asap. Then come in once every 3-4 weeks to clear the area again. This will continue for 12-18 months and treatments will get more sparse.

Good luck!
