Calling all Electrolysis Experts!

Hello everyone, I am new to the site and am looking for advice on selling my machine.
Fisher Blend SE4, bought the machine when my kids were young and thought I would build a home clientele, but never really did, I had 3 measily clients over the years! I’d guess about 1000-1500 hours on the machine. I have extra pedals and probes, and everything is in mint condition.
I paid $1200 for this machine back in the 80’s, and have NO idea what to sell it for. There is an electrolysis/laser place in my home town looking to purchase it from me, but I want to make sure I get the right amount for it! Afterall, I did not use it that much. Fisher also has a great reputation, so it is rather hard to find these babies!
What would you guess this old, yet suburb Fisher is worth these days?
Any advice from the group would be appreciated!

Thanks!

Its very hard to think that you couldnt build your own business, especially if you had all the equipment and everything, unless you never got certified, in which case makes sense. I only started school, and i intend to have home practice, and already have bunch of potential clients lined up. It`s just hard to believe.

A friend of mine used to say, “If you don’t advertise, something terrible might happen… NOTHING.”

I would say it is certainly not worth more that $300.

Somebody wanting to do DIY at home would be a perfect buyer. A professional electrologist who is serious about building a strong business should consider buying a computerized epilator, surgical magnification and other equipment that allows the electrologist to get the hair off fast with minimal skin reaction.

Just my opinion, but I hope you can get as much money as you can for your epilator.

I mentioned to a few people here and there I might go to be trained to be an electrologist, and I was surprised that a handful of them asked me when I would be finished… because they have unwanted hair and asked me if I would work on them! (One was quite eager to begin and I referred them to you James, they are not far from you.)

In my current biz I have struggled for years advertising and struggling to get clients, and I just mention in passing I am considering a career in electrolysis and they start lining up! I almost asked if they’d pre-pay with a really really heavily reduced rate so I could pay for training and missed time from my current work. Maybe not

I know of a few local electrologists that folks have told me about over the years. But with only one exception, not only did these local electrologists not use conventional advertising, nor have a basic brochure-type Web site, I had to struggle online to even find simple contact information! One salon that has (had?) electrolysis service doesn’t even have it on the sign outside where they mention their other services (hairdressing/waxing/etc.) :stuck_out_tongue:

As for the Fischer machine, you may have to sell it on eBay though you could mention it here and someone might be interested (start at a reasonable opening bid and put a $150-300 or so reserve on it just in case one person bids $25 or something and is the only bidder for some odd reason.) My old machine is going up on eBay soon, I was hoping to find someone local who could use it and not have to go through all that trouble, ah well.

You would be surprised at how many people would take you up on that offer.

Will you be at the picnic next weekend at Ellicott Creek? Perhaps we can talk more then.
