Electrologist in Greater Manchester

Hi Everyone,

I’ve decided to have electrolysis treatment but I’m struggling to find decent practitioner. So far I’ve spoken to two ladies who are D.R.E qualified and members of BIAE but unfortunatelly one of them is about to get retired and another one is very busy. Also I went for consultation to see two more practitioners from BIAE site but to be honest I wasn’t impressed.I know there are so many on BIAE site but I just find very hard to believe they are all skillful.Correct me if I’m wrong.

Can someone here recommend a good electrologist in Manchester Area,or at least give me an advice how to find one?You can write on here or via private message. Thanks for your help.

Hi mcfc,

Unfortunately if you don’t get a referral, then it is a case of ringing around and having some test patches. In theory BIAE members should all be exemplary and most are. A practical, oral and theory exam have to be taken, then only after two years can practitioners become full members. However unfortunately there are members for whatever reason seem to have under par work.
Keep searching, someone on this forum may be able to help.

Hello Mairi,

Thanks for your replay.

I’m having another consultation in a few days with a lady who works at 4 different salons. How does that sound?

Perhaps you could give me a few tips on what I should ask her during consultation in order to make a better judgment(?).

MCFC

It really does’nt matter that she works from 4 different salons, as long as they are clean and tidy.
Find out if electrolysis is what she does the most, preferable if this is all she does. You will find a big difference in an electrologist who is practising several hours a day to someone who does 15 mins once a week.
She should give a clear understanding of the treatment outlining a treatment plan from start to finish, what to expect concerning re-growth, and skin reaction.
Other considerations, hygiene, lighting , good magnification.
hope this helps

With the treatment, expect minimal sensation when probe is being inserted, and no tweezing of the hair. If the consultation goes well ask for a test patch before you commit to a full treatment.

I went for another consultation as I mantioned in my previous post.We did a patch test on my neck (strong hair as I shaved it for years,I’m a guy by the way) using Galvanic method first, and then swiched to Thermolysis. With Thermolysis I felt plucking and pulling sensation. She used Sterex machine. The treated area was red and kind of swollen for a couple days and there was a few spots.I aplied aloa vera gel as advised by electrologist. That day I had headeche and I was a bit sick. After 3-4 days the skin turned yellow and it still is.I’m a bit worried as I’m not sure if that’s normal(?).What shell I do with this yellow mark?

It kind of puts you off…

You can take a quality picture and show your electrologist or you can ask her if you can stop by today and show her the yellow area.

Are you taking any medications? Prescribed? Over the counter? Herbal?

It will resolve itself. Give it time.

Hi Dee.Don’t take any medication.I think she bruised me.

Okay. That is what I was thinking. Just let her know at the next treatment.

Hi mcfc, it’s sounds as if the electrologist was struggling with the hair, she may not have had that much experience. While some skins can react as in becoming red and swollen depending on skins sensitivity, hair strength and your own healing time, buising is a rarity, ice or pressure should be applied immediately, pulling and plucking are never a good sign. Do a little research and try another practitioner

Hey Mairi,

Hopefully I’ll find someone soon.

What do you think what method (thermolysis, galvanic, or blend) would be most effective for someone like myself?I’m a guy, white skin, its neck area that’s been shaved for years. How is possible different electrologists recommend differnt methods?I’ve seen three practitioner so far and one of them recommended usage of ‘blend’,other two ‘thermolysis’ method.I don’t get this.

Mcfc,

ALL methods of electrolysis work and electrologists all have their way of disabling hair follicles whether it be through heat, chemical change or both together.
Many electrologists know how to do all three modalities of electrolysis, so they are flexible enough to know when to switch from blend to thermolysis to galvanic. Others can remove any structure of hair with one modality. Just get to the nitty gritty of this and have some treatments with different practitioners and then you will discover which strategy you like the best. They all work.

According to some internet web sites blend is more effective then thermolysis in terms of number of hair killings.Does that mean I should go for electrologist who’s favouring blend?

Having used all the modalities, thermolysis, blend, multi-probe galvanic and computerised electrolysis which allows picoflash, the most important aspect is getting an experienced skilled electrologist. All will work very well, blend is a mix of glavanic and thermolysis, and works slightly better than thermolysis alone, on distorted follicles, however there is not a huge difference in the amount of time it takes to get to the end result. Pure galvanic cuts down on the amount of regrowth but takes longer to treat every individual hair. Picoflash delivers powerful thermolysis in a faction of a second. As Dee says all methods work, it comes down to finding a good electrologist and you will get the results.
