I have recently moved to New York City (Manhattan) and am looking for an electrologist…
I have patchy but thick, dark laser-induced hair growth all over my arms. I’m a bit wary because my previous electrolysis on the area has given me hyperpigmentation in some parts. I haven’t had great results so far but I had waxed the area for a year prior to beginning treatment, which might explain the difficulty.
I really need to find someone who can work fast and accurately with the best technology. If anyone has advice, comments or experience I would be very grateful!
If I had seen this sooner, I might have let you know that I was in fact in Manhattan today. Such as it is, I have once again escaped from NYC. One good thing about this trip, I got to visit with the lovely Arlene Batz. It is confirmed folks, we do have a lot in common, and yes, she is a very good Electrolysis Provider.
The hyperpigmentation from your last electrologist is most likely not her fault. Some people are prone to hyperpig. It will fade with time. Finding a well-trained or re-trained electrologist in New York City is far easier than finding one in rural Louisiana, so you got that on your side.
I have worked on clients who had patchy growth on their arms from laser and can assure you that electrolysis will solve your problem. Your best best is to find an electrologist who uses the best computerized epilators in existence (the higher end Apilus products or the Silhouet-Tone VMC are the ones I am familiar with, but there are others) and then do marathon sessions with an electrologist that has the right setup, so she/he has the stamina to push forward fast. By marathon sessions, I talking about 3-5 hours worth initially, to clear the arms or take one arm and fully clear it one week and then do the other arm and clear in week two. I like waxing one time before starting or shaving three days before each subsequent treatment would be fine. You have got to put real effort in this for the first 4-6 months and then everything slows down to the point where you need shorter appointments spaced out to every 4-6 weeks.
The fastest modes of thermolysis, labeled as flash thermolysis (microflash, picoflash, etc.) would be awesome and fairly comfortable. Arlene can do this and I’m sure there are others that I am not aware of that can satisfy your need to clean up the laser - induced hair growth. I know this to be a fact because I have completed many cases. It just works well.
Thanks so much for your input, Dee. I will bear all of that in mind when looking - and feel very relieved about the hyperpigmentation. And I’m glad you think it is possible and worth the effort.
Thanks also James and LAGirl - I did do a search but didn’t come up with any referrals that were recent which is why I thought I’d re-post. Arlene sounds fantastic but unfortunately I think she might be a bit far away from me (probably would take over an hour from Harlem). If anyone else has any recommendations in Manhattan or a bit closer to Manhattan, that would be great - otherwise I now at least know what I have to look for!
How could I have forgotten about dear Ms. Stephanie R. Fracassa! She is a Full Member of The Electrolysis SuperFriends, after all!
I have met Ms. Stephanie R. Fracassa, CPE of Professional Touch at many seminars and conventions, and she has even done excellent work on me. (Mine is not the easiest hair to work on.)
She is a warm person, very well trained, does good work, and is always looking for new ways to help her patrons get the best results in the fastest time possible.
In my book, she is highly recommended. A TG client of mine who has only had work done by me was in NYC for an extended stay and had need of a pick-up appointment with someone to stay on schedule. I recommended Ms. Fracassa and she returned with glowing reviews (as I knew she would) and said that she felt like she was almost back at my place.
Coming from my clients, that is high praise indeed! So pat yourself on the back Stephanie. See you at a continuing ed class sometime soon.
