I’ve been reading this forum for research- it’s been great so thank you!
I have a question relating to facial hair. I have several dark, coarse hairs on the sides of my face and chin. They probably started when I was in my early twenties and through a combination of time and tweezing have progressively worsened (now mid thirties). I stopped plucking and switched to shaving about 3 weeks ago after I made a decision to have laser (I realise now this was ill advised!) So I currently have about 10 on each side and 6 on my chin (although who knows how many are waiting to pop up!)
After discovering this forum I realised that laser on the face was pointless in my case and may open a potential can of worms in terms of induced regrowth. Sadly this was AFTER my first session of laser but I’m just happy I found out!
I had this laser session 9 days ago and since then I’ve shed about 3 hairs out of 15. I know it can take up to 3 weeks for full shedding but I’d like to know if it’s safe to have electrolysis this soon after laser if the hairs are still there after the 3 weeks is up. I am to understand that if the hairs are still there it means they weren’t affected so can be treated by electrolysis?
Yes, of course, you may have electrolysis if the hairs don’t shed in three weeks. I don’t like laser for facial hair. A modern electrologist can handle those coarse hairs and more with much less risk.
Thanks Dee! Yes, I wish I’d done my research properly and found this site before I even went near laser on my face. It’s easy to get duped though and when I went to the laser clinic yesterday for a body hair test patch I found myself challenging them on why they had even agreed to laser the sporadic hairs on my face! Anyway, I’m responsible for myself so can’t really blame them.
So, I’ll just wait and see what happens in the next couple of weeks and then start trying out the electrolysis practitioners in my area. Would you recommend I ask them to do a test patch of a couple of hairs or should I go for the whole lot since there aren’t that many? I guess it’s a choice between clearance and a possible adverse reaction.
I would wait 3 weeks and see what sheds. It’s kind of pointless to have electrolysis now on the hairs that were touched by laser. Start electrolysis once new hairs pop up after shedding completes.
That’s not a lot of hair. A test patch would basically be a “treatment” for you So just research some good electrologists and try a different one for the first 3 times.
Yeah, that seems sensible. I know it doesn’t sound like many hairs but I guess it’s all relative and I’m a little worried to see how many with come through now I’ve stopped plucking.
I’ll wait another couple of weeks and then report back.
