Is it safe to perform electrolysis (on the legs) during pregnancy? I have searched all over the web, and the answer seems to be: no one seems to have ever reported pregnancy complications / fetal damage due to electrolysis, yet no research has ever been done to prove it is safe/unsafe, so you can use at your own risk.
They also say “consult your doctor”. Of the two doctors that I asked (family physician and obstetrician) one had a very vague idea about what electrolysis is and the other one told me to look it up on the internet.
My electrolysist says it is okay to do thermolysis and she has treated “tons of pregnant women”. But I would like something more convincing than that – an opinion of a specialist or of a woman who has has electrolysis treatments during her pregnancy. Please and thank you!
Electrolysis may be performed during any stage of pregnancy. If you intend to breastfeed, avoid treating the nipple area 2-3 weeks before delivery.
I treat pregnant women with thermolysis and all is fine. Electrolysis has been done for 130++ years on women, pregnant and non-pregnant. Now that’s a long time to gather information, wouldn’t you say? Heck, as far as research goes, we don’t even have a scientifically accurate method which can precisely measure regrowth let alone know about electrolysis and pregnancy.
What we do have is time on our side. On hundred and thirty years++ of electrolysis care is pretty dramatic. We have observed many things in that vast time span, one being that electrolysis can be safely performed on pregnant women. Try convincing a shark lawyer about this fact when a less than perfect human being emerges into the light. So, some doctors and electrologists will cover their heads and the other body part, and refuse to touch a pregnant woman even when there is no data that suggests that electrolysis is harmful to a fetus.
You are on your own on this one, basically. So, do what your instincts tell you.
