Electrolysis going well, but..............?

Hi everybody, I came on here a while back when i was trying to decide what method of hair removal to use for my 13 year old daughter who has lots of blonde facial hair. well after all your great advice we decided to have electrolysis which is so far going great, been seeing a lady for about 5 months and she has cleared quite a lot mainly on one side so far. my question is what do you all do whilst you are having the treatment done to keep the untreated areas under control. I have just been trimming with small scissors, but this needs doing every couple of days and to be honest it never is that effective.Is it ok to shave the face, or will this make the hair grown back thicker etc, I’m afraid I am a bit clueless about this stuff so any advice would be really appreciated.thanks x

Clipping, like you are doing now, is best.

There is disagreement about shaving in the electrolysis profession. I am not against shaving if the client needs relief until the electrologist can catch up with the hairs that are bothersome. I will still get the hair whether they shave or not.

Other professional electrologists want every hair present so they can treat the hair whether it be in anagen, catagen, or telogen phase, declaring that all phases of growth, whether it be the growing, resting and shedding hairs can permanently be eliminated.

Others declare that shaving allows the the electrologist to treat only the growing hairs and that catagen and telogen hairs, which have detached from the nourishment, the dermal papilla, can not be permanently disabled unless the bottom of the follicle is punctured.

Others declare that shaving stimulates hair growth because of the friction and heat that is created on the skin, thus bringing blood to the area, which carries male hormone, which fattens the hair, so they are against shaving altogether.

My head is spinning by now. I would advise you to still clip as best you can and keep moving forward with electrolysis. Put the time in so hair can be eliminated ASAP. Always maintain the areas as needed through periods of new hair growth in her life and perhaps your daughter will someday run out of functioning hair follicles and live free from any hair that is too noticeable.

Thats really helpful thanks, I guess we will just stick with what we are doing then! just thought it was worth a check in case there was another option i hadn’t considered, but sounds like shaving might be a mistake.

so shaving stimulating hair growth may not be a myth?

Yes, that is what was taught at the Dectro symposium I attended. What do others think or know about this?

What evidence did they provide to back this up? I thought this was discounted years ago.

I was surprised as well, but it shows how unsettled the shaving question is, which made me scratch my head a bit because I thought it was settled from 1922 (Margaret Trotter) on through the Japanese studies that showed no effect on hair growth. I admire the electrologists of Dectro, but that declaration threw me a bit, so I included it in the above post to get some feedback from others that are smarter than me.

Well they will have to be smarter than me too!!!

…Dee, I know you just threw that out to see what we made of it, but this kind of reminds me of that Dark Ages addage that;
If she’s a witch, she’ll float, because the water is rejecting her. If she’s not a witch, she’ll sink, but we can’t rescue her, because if she’s with God, then God will save her. lol :slight_smile:

Shave? Swim? …I mean, what’s a girl to do?
:grin:
