Electrolysis types

Hello everyone,

I have a few dark/thick hairs on my chin and neck area as a result of tweezing! (they’re around 9 hairs) and I was advised to remove them using electrolysis since the rest of my facial hair is too fine for laser.

I was reading about the process and I’m not sure which method (Galvanic, Blend, Thermolysis) is better? (or safer?) I’m afraid of scarring, and unfortunately, where I live, there aren’t many options.

I would like to have a better idea about this before I discuss it with my therapist so I’d know what questions to ask. She told me they have “Electro-epilation” and I’m not sure if this is the same thing?

Looking forward to your answers

Most electrologists in this day and age do either Blend (which is a combination of thermolysis and galvanic currents) or Thermolysis.

Both are good and will work. You just need to find a good electrologist. If the electrologist uses both modalities, they will select which they feel is best suited to the hairs you want removed from their own experience. Some electrologists chose to use one method only, which is fine too.

It sounds like electro-epilation is just another phrase to describe electrolysis. You can still ask to know which method the the electrologist will choose to perform.

You shouldn’t feel the probe enter the follicle, although you will feel the current. The hair should slide out of the follicle after being treated. You probably have more than 9 hairs too. Once these hairs are removed and the next cycle of hair comes around, it may come with a few more thick hairs which will also need removing, so expect more than one session.
