As some of you know, I recently purchased an Apilus Platinum machine. I was really nervous about making such a huge investment in a machine that I really didn’t know too much about. I did my research, but there aren’t any practitioners in this area that have a Platinum, so it’s not like I could test one out. On top of this, the owner of the electrolysis school I attend advised me against purchasing one. She told me that she had a Platinum at the school before, but none of the students or clients liked it because it was too “hot” and too painful.
Well, I did my research and asked around (including here at hairtell). After talking with a few people, I decided that the reason there are people who don’t like this machine is most likely because those people were not using it correctly. I decided that if I was going to make such a large investment, I was going to do it correctly and fly out to CA to get trained correctly.
THIS WAS THE BEST THING I EVER DID! Johanne from Aesthetic Systems is an amazing instructor. She is incredibly knowledgable. There wasn’t a question she couldn’t answer. I not only learned tons about the machine, I greatly improved my technique as well. I am so sad that I was only able to spend a few hours there. But those few hours were priceless. I left there with so much information crammed in my head that I’m still processing it all, but I know that I have become 100 times better at what I do.
If any of you have a Platinum and have not gone out to do your training, I would HIGHLY recommend it. I am now 100% sure that I did the right thing in purchasing this machine and I feel so much more confident as an electrologist.
Johanne, if you are reading this, Thank You! You are wonderful (and you too John)… oh, and HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
You are welcome
You do realize that you are now solidly ahead in the local electrolysis arms race, when it comes to equipment (as long as your vision & lighting is up to specs).
I hope that you said hello to Johanne and her family for me while you were out there.
Yes, we talked about you. It was funny actually. John was like “Do you ever go to Hair Tell? There is this post on there titled ‘Told NOT to get an Apilus Platinum.’ You should read that.” Johanne leans over to John and says, “I think that was her.”
HA! Yes, I told them how you and Dee straightened me out on the issue. Thank you!
I met Johanne when she attended a continuing education course here in Ohio last year. She is a gentle, lovely person indeed, and I can only conclude that it would be a privilege to have her as an instructor.
You bought a superior product and I say this in the vain as not to disparage other companies and their epilators. I have used three other brand epilators and got great results for my clients in the years past, but the biggest difference now that stands out is the sensation factor is much better as compared the other products I used. However, I will say that my Silhouet-Tone VMC was very good friend and was pretty comfortable as well. I still have the VMC as I’m not too eager to part with it at the present time.
If I my ask, how do like Synchro?? Do have the special technique down yet? Have you personally had treatment on the Apilus Platinum ?
Thanks for checking in and come back as you get more comfortable with the Platinum. Oh, and do you plan to contact your instructor? If she had had some training beforehand, maybe she would have had different advice for all of her students.
Gentle and lovely are perfect descriptions of Johanne. I told her that I wished I could just shrink her down and keep her in my pocket so that I could refer to her whenever I needed to. She said a simple phone call when I need her would probably be better.
I have not become comfortable with Synchro. I’ve only been using the machine for a few days, after all. I did try it a few times using the pedal. I can’t imagine how difficult it would be to get the timing down if it were on auto. Johanne sent me home with a few articles to read on it. I’ll have to keep playing with it.
The only personal treatment I have had on the Platinum is what I have done on myself. So far, I think the sensations are superb compared to other machines. I have tried a few different Fischers, Gentronics and the Clareblend. I love the feel of the Platinum. Fischer comes in second place.
I have contacted my instructor… after all I am still in school! My instructor is very open minded. She’s enjoying having the machine at the school to fiddle with. It was the owner of the school who advised me against getting the machine. The owner is actually a wonderful woman. I think she just had a bad experience with it. Maybe having it at her school for a couple of months will make her change her mind.
