Genital electrolysis

Dear forum

I would like to ask some questions about genital electrolysis if I may. (I know, it’s a disgusting topic!)

I’m going to have to have it done eventually…

I wondered, is it true that a special needle has to be used, and that it is more painful than electrolysis on the face?

Also, I’ve heard that you don’t need as many treatments for clearance. Approximately 50 treatments is usually enough. Is this true?

I would really appreciate any answers to all these questions. It’s something I really don’t want to think about but the time is coming and I’d really appreciate some sound advice.

P.S. If anyone knows anything about genital electrolysis in England (where I’m from and live) then that would help too.

Thanks for reading and take care!

Hi Cupcake2,

You ask if the needle for genital hair removal is different than the probes used on other areas.
Response: Probe choice is not contingent on body part. Needle choice has to do with the technique and the hair diameter.

You ask about total treatment time.
Response: That all depends on how much hair growth you have in the area, androgen levels, and how quickly you can get your first clearance.

You ask about genital electrolysis in England:
Response: I have been given specific instructions from Gender Reassignment Surgeons. Each has their own guidelines that I am supposed to follow. Some areas do not have hair removal as the hair hides the surgical scars. Therefore, before you begin electrolysis with GRS in mind, find the surgeon first and get his/her instructions.

I can provide information for those within the US but I don’t know how to go about the process in England. Also, based on your situation and how the medical community responds, you might not have to pay for your GRS but I do not know the current situation in England. Here in the US, its a very expensive journey.

If your hair is dark and coarse, you should consider getting laser treatments first to clear the majority of the hair there and then finish with electrolysis. This area responds very well to laser as the hair is usually coarse. It would save you a lot of time and money in the end.

Arlene addressed your other questions well, so I’m not going to repeat the answers.

I know of two ladies who specialise in electrolysis for GRS patients, one is based in London the other in Nottingham. I can PM you the names if you would like.

Regards,
Benji

I can’t speak to the face, but I’ve had treatments on the back of my neck and they were much more painful than those in the genital area.

Good to hear from you, hairlessinLA!

Thanks, lagirl. I’ve been mostly lurking lately, but jump in when I feel like I have something to add. Hope you’re still doing well!
