Just to let you know it is very difficult to find a good electrogist in England as electrolysis is not as big as it is in the US. However, you can contact the British Institute of electrolysis who govern the practice and have thier certified members who have passed a examination and have the letters DRE after their name. However, alot of thier members do not practice as i have found and you do get BAD and GOOD DRE’s. But the good news is that some of them have trained other electrolgists. This is not ideal when you would rather go to someone who has years of experience rather than a couple of years. But when their is a shortage of good electrolgists this maybe the only option. As I go to an electrolgist who has been trained by her mother who is DRE and has 18 years of experience but cannot practice due to ill health. The institute have thier own website and you can look them up through google search or you can ring 192 over here in england and get their number. I live in the West Midlands and have had great difficulty in finding someone. I will also be moving to London in the future too. So I welcome any reccomendations from anyone over here in the uk. I will be moving to east london- so is there anyone out there who can recommend me to someone. To James and Andrea is there no way you could make contact over here in England and recommend electrologists to us??? As we are struggling to find good electrolgists. I also wanted if it is harder to kill hairs that have been waxed on the face. They are not strong, but fine and slightly long-my electrolgist calls them club hairs. I made the big mistake of waxing the sides of my face for a couple of years, thinking that they would go away and come back finer!
If I had my dream come true, I would know good electrologists from all over the world. (that dream may come, who knows) In the mean time, we can only hope that people like you will post personal experiences and help us all out in that way.
Waxing does in fact make permanent hair removal harder later, as the hair grows deeper and thicker in responce to the body’s building up the area after what it considers an injury. The increased blood flow fertilizes hair just like the grass grows in your lawn. People who wax will need a higher setting than if they had just come in for electrolysis when they still had “virgin” hair. This should not dissuade you from getting electrolysis if you have previously had waxing, or any other form of plucking. One just has to know that the longer one plucks and waxes, the thicker, and deeper the hairs grow. That also leads to stronger settings being needed to treat the hairs.
My therapist is from Rotherham (North Uk)if that is not far from you. She uses the Apilus machine and has done treatments for years, she also works for the hospital treating women with PCOS. Salon is called Pure Aesthetics (they have a web site)
thanks and regards Leo1
Before the mods have to say it i’ll say it for them if we all listed our location in our profiles then questions like this would be easier to answer I’ve been guilty of it in the past.
Leo1 your therapist sounds great. I’ve sometimes contemplated flying over to the states where they use better magnification but realise the logistics of it would be just too expensive - all the return trips.
Though I do have a good electrologist now here in London she doesn’t have the Apilus but she is fast. Again found from a recommendation here.
