Hi everyone.
I finally have my first electrolysis machine. After reading many of the experts oppinions at this forum, I´ve bought the SX500.
I´m just finisning my course, which means I have no experience at all. Well just the LITTLE practice at the school that here in Spain is really light. Fortunately, my husband has hair enough for me to became a professional.
To start my practice, I still need to buy a magnifier or similar. What would you recommend? Loupes? Stand magnifier? Dioptries? Brands? Price?..
My husband is telling me to try some kind of camera with a screen. What do you think about it? Any experience?
I’m no expert at all never done electrolysis but I just bought a home unit and was wondering too. Just for fun, I took my HD Video Camera and connected it with HDMI to my 52" LCD in the living room. I turned the light on, and zoomed in. The hairs are huge on the screen and really clear and easy to see. The only issue is that the image is of course in mirror so moving your hand to the right moves it to the left on screen. Haven’t played enough but if there’s some way to flip it I think it would work well. Mind you it’s probably cheaper and more beneficial to spend the money on a good magnifying device that a pro would use. He’s prob just trying to get a new TV and HD Camera!
I think that if you positioned the camera to be “looking” down at the treatment area from the same direction as your head, you would not have to “flip” the image, as the camera’s perspective would be the same as yours.
This might allow you to do work without worry of making your own holes if the lighting is good enough. Now you just have to work on being able to reach and insert without problems.
For pro work, I would stick with a stereo microscope set up like the Zeiss opmi 99 or similar. The combination of good lighting and 20x’s or even 40x’s magnification and an adjustable focal working distance are wonderful. The reason you want the stereo scope over the TV set up is that you would have no depth perception looking at one TV screen. This would effect your work on a professional level.
Get the best vision you can possibly get. If you can make a stereo scope appear, make it happen right out of the box. It will make you a better practitioner.
I am firmly convinced that my country’s capital, Madrid, soon have a great professional electrolysis. Which makes it quite lack. The electrologist few that are there need urgent assistance.
I´m finally testing the SX500 with my husband and I´m not getting the results I expected.
At the school we worked with Sorisa DE2000 and I removed hair without much pain (flash setup - maximum power - minimum time). However, with the SX500 in, for example, MicroFlash - 88% power and 0.040s time (2 pulses), can´t remove most hairs and my husband says it hurts a bit.
Well, by now I don´t use any anesthetic, nor cold, as I want he can tell how it feels during insertion, current application and during the extraction of hair. At the moment I’m working on the leg with steel needles Vellona F3. Already ordered Ballet gold.
I always read that SX500 and especially Platinum are among the best electrolysis machines as they produce less pain than others, but as you see I’m not getting good results.
What do you think could be happening? Should I apply any anesthetic or cold and increase the power/time setup? Should I always apply anesthetic? How much can the type of needle (gold-steel) and size influence the pain and effectiveness?
If memory serves me correctly, Cris, the DE2000 only offers a slow Thermolysis. It is possible that the manufacturer (Sorisa) has incorporated some changes and can now work a Flash in DE4000.
In any case, I have understood that the Flash (Apilus 13.56 MHz) is much better than the Flash of Sorisa(13.56 MHz).
Just as Sorisa Blend is in my opinion much better than Apilus Blend.
It is possible that the hair you’re trying on the leg of your husband, is thicker than hair that has been treated in yourself.
It is also possible that your husband is a little more sensitive to pain than you.
I did not work SX500, but in the Platinum those parameters would not treat a successful man’s leg hair.
In your oppinion, depilacionelectr, what could be a nice setting for man´s leg hair? His hair is not so thick, but it´s funny because it grows in lines of three folicles together.
Today I´ve had a problem with the memory card. When I turn on the machine, appears this message: “Card not compatible - Contact distributor”. Does anyone know something about this message? I can´t use the machine right now for this reason. I suppose the card is faulty for any reason.
Everyone has the follicles grouped 3 in 3, sometimes 4 in 4. Everyone (men and women) are the distribution of hairs.
Your teacher should have emphasized this. It is essential to determine the number of hairs to be treated in the future.
The 3 follicles on the leg of your husband, have developed terminal hair. If you’re seeing that there are 3, means that most of the hairs are in telogen phase.
You may be doing an insert too deep?
A telogen hair with intensive Flash parameters accurately the location of the needle tip.
Otherwise, the shot will not reach the target area.
Con muchísimo cariño,
Josefa
PD: LLama mañana a Francisco, seguro que él sabe solucionar lo de la Tarjeta. Yo nunca la uso. De hecho, no sé ni cómo se utiliza.
If your machine uses S-RAM cards (I think the SX does, as the SM does) the battery in the card might be dead or dying. I would try replacing the battery. It should state what kind of battery the card uses in the SX-500 manual; there will also be instructions on how to change the battery, make sure you follow them to the letter or you might lose all of the data on the card.
I assume the HF power output of the SX-500 is close/identical to the SM-500, so here is how I remove my tough male leg hair. I start at 95% and 0.042 and go up from there as needed, to as high as 98% and 0.055 for the hairs above the knee that are deep. One pulse will usually do it with those settings, but two are sometimes necessary on the tougher ones. I’d start at ~93% and 0.040 and go up from there.
Unfortunately, here in Spain public aesthetics schools just teach the basics so I know I´m still far away from being the professional I want to be. There are professionals in Spain like “depilacionelectr” and others that should open a school. I´d love it!!
Depilacionelectr, as you say, I´m going to try inserting the needle not so deep.
Thanks VickieCNY for your information. I´ll try also with those settings.
About the card message, it´s been pretty easy to fix (with the good support of DRV; Apilus distributor in Spain). It seems a client file became corrupted as I turned off the machine with the file still open.
Ok, first off, I don’t know if they go by different names in your country, but the lithium battery for the S-RAM card in the SX-500 and SM-500 can use CR-2025 or CR-2032.
Since your machine had been working, we expect that you did not mistakenly erase your card. What most electrolysis practitioners with this machine do to cause this to happen is to turn the machine off and leave the card connected to the machine. In this case, the machine will drain the card, as it is the only source of energy, and overnight, one can have a dead battery. You must replace the battery before the machine will work again. ALWAYS have a spare battery for the card nearby.
Now you must do one of two things, either leave your machine on all the time, or turn the machine off and disengage the card from the connection. It can sit in the slot, as long as it is not snug to the mating teeth of the motherboard socket.
One of my few complaints about this machine is that it can not be set to work without the computer card. Without it (and they cost upwards of $300 from Dectro) the machine is a pretty paperweight.
As for your husband’s hair, if he has a real manly man’s beard, you may need to start at .099 over 99% to get a good release on one pulse.
Keep in mind also that in thermolysis the better the insertion, the more comfortable the treatment, and the less power needed to effect hair removal. It is possible that you may want to start out in Blend to get the feel of his follicles, and iron out the finesse of your insertions. Thermolysis is most dependent on the quality of your insertions. If they are off, the treatment energy must be increased to compensate, and the subject may feel unnecessary pain during the insertion process and treatment zap. On the treatment zap it may be because the probe has left the follicle walls and is in the fatty layer, or striking a nerve more directly. In most cases, however, it is just that the practitioner is being timid and has made a shallow insertion, thus causing unneeded pain, and increasing the amount of energy needed to release the hair.
