hi, this is my first post. i have a question because i have been considering a form of long term or permanent hair removal for a while but there is s problem, because i have vitiligo on my back. although the areas i plan to have laser hair removal or electrolysis on are not affected, i would still like to know if it is safe, which method is safer out of the mentioned and would like to hear from anyone who actually has the condition, how was the experience for u and did you have any side effects?
just a little bit more information, am of south asian decent but have a light/medium complexion. areas i would like treated are bikini area(coarse hair), buttocks(fine/medium hair), legs(fine/medium/coarse), small area under and around belly button(fine/medium)
Vitiligo has to do with skin pigmentation, the loss of pigment that occurs in patches. Since it is not a contagious disorder, it okay to have electrolysis and I ASSUME laser hair removal. Be aware that that you may possibly get brownish spots or even freckles if you are prone to pigmentation and if you are overtreated with any modality. Hyperpigmentation gradually fades for most people after they complete their hair removal program.
Both laser and electrolysis are safe. The thing you want to focus on is, which method to use for which area. Electrolysis works on any area, any structure of hair, any color of hair on any color of skin. Laser is suitable and works best for COARSE, DARK HAIR on light skin. The bikini and underarms work well if one gets treatment with a good laser and skilled technician that concentrates on her/his work. I would not waste my money on any area that has fine or medium hair or the area around your navel. Electrolysis would offer targeted permanent hair removal by eliminating the noticable hair and leaving the vellus hair alone. It can “SEE” all hair whereas laser is restricted. Use your laser money for the areas that will bring you the most success and use your electrolysis money for fine dark or light hairs and you will have all bases covered. Otherwise, you will be back here griping about all the money you spent on laser hair reduction and you still have hair. Laser has limitations that is why you want to have a skilled electrologist on hand to bring you the final result. If there are no skilled, modern electrologists in your local, then I truly feel for you.
Thanks for ur reply i found it really helpful. There should be some good electrologists in london, do u knw of any? And i knw ths may sound realy nasty bt cn electrolysis be used to treat the brazilian area including butt crack or is laser a better option for it?
Electrolysis can be used anywhere, though we learn in school not to do inside the ear canal and inside the nose. Infection concerns are the reason why. A full brazilian is certainly fine to do with electrolysis as is the butt crack. You need an anesthetic cream like lidocaine 5% though. The butt crack is not my favorite area. It takes strength to pull, stretch and insert the probe. The client should be courteous and come to the appointment clean. Laser is performed here as well and it’s not as technically difficult to do as electrolysis. So, yes, both modalities can be used, but think of using a topical cream or you may say, “WHOOOAAAA!” followed by “!!**##@!!”.
