I just had my first Electrolysis session (on my eyebrows) and OMG i had no idea it would be so PAINFUL!
I was in tears. I dont know if i can stand another session but im determined to continue.
Does anybody know if any of those numbing creams work very well?
Also i was going to get my eyebrows shaped with the Electrolysis but im thinking its not such a great idea because if i want to grow them out a bit or change the shape in the future.
Im sorry, i know there is probably a post already like this one but im new here and finding it a bit confusing to navigate.
Thanks alot in advance
P.S She used to lowest current on the machine too.
They do work (EMLA, LMX4/5, and similar.) However, make sure you occlude them properly, it might be difficult keeping the saran wrap on your face above your eyes. Even on the upper lip it is difficult to keep it from moving around.
The creams will take the edge off, you will probably still have some discomfort/pain. But they definitely can help make it more bearable.
The newer computerized epilators help a great deal with the sensation factor. None of my clients need topicals for eyebrow work. Probe selection helps. Surgical magnification is a huge factor as is proper lighting. Skill is alwyas #1. How many electrologists have you sampled and compared?
Having your brows professionally waxed is great. If you like the look, then make appointments to so that any new hairs are treated as they come in, keeping the line you like. This is a smart way to do eyebrows. Be patient as it still takes about a year or so to conquer all the hair, but you will look pretty darn good within 4-6 months.

Ive only tried the one, there are not many places at all around my area that provide electrolysis.
It will look pretty good within 4-6 months you say? How regularly would you recomment the treatment? Once a week once a fortnight or once a month? Or do i just have to wait for the hairs to grow back? Does it make it any easier if i go more often?
Definitely not once a month for the eyebrows, samilee.
Go at least once a week to begin with or every two weeks if you have vigorous hair growth. Get hair as it comes in is what I’m basically saying and do not be tempted to tweeze.
Sorry you do not have the luxury to sample a few practitioners, but that’s the norm in many locales. Watch the healing part and communicate if there are temporary skin reactions that don’t subside within a week or so.

Thanks Dfahey, also would there be any numbing creams you would recommend?
I’ve never used topicals on the brow area, even back in my Proteus and Kree days. Sneezing and/or watery eyes are usually more of an issue for my clients than the amount of pain you describe. Make sure you avoid caffeine and drink a lot of water. Perhaps holding a ice pack on the area for a couple minutes beforehand would help? I do think you build a tolerance when you do weekly treatments vs. every other week or less often, plus your treatments will be shorter and you’ll reach permanency sooner.
Thanks for the advice choice. Im a newbie at all of this and just want to do whatever i can to get the best results. Im willing to put up with the pain in small doses, but if there was anyway to make it less painfull i would definately try it lol
